All Blacks v Argentina II

Before the French series Razor was asked his biggest regret was from last season.
He said he was too conservative and risk-averse (I am guessing in relation to the picking of reliable journeymen).
I see no evidence he has changed. That's just not true though. We've got different guys out there than last year but, the big issue we face, which bites us every so often, is that we don't have a good enough first five.
McKenzie is not it, Barrett is not it, but they are the best we have. Without a good first five, you won't consistently grind down and win tests.
We could do with some fresh blood on the wing, but I'm not sure that changes much.

@WoodysRFC also need to hold onto our Eden park fortress streak which won't be easy we've got two Tests there next month
I will be very surprised if we even win one of the two games against SA. Really can't see it happening especially given who we have out. Will probably beat Australia at home and retain the Bledisloe as they seem to have a mental block whenever they come to NZ and never play to their potential.
Given who we have out? Who are these missing magical players? Roigard, Patty T? Please don't say Mo'unga!
Roigard, Patty T, Lomax and Clarke (best wing in NZ under the high ball). I didn't think that we would beat them even with our strongest team, but without those players I don't think we will even come close.

@ACT-Crusader well maybe better than quite a few out there today

Wow
Fair play Argies

At least Foster only let them win every other year.

I've been intimating for quite a few games that Reece is a short track bully. If he gets picked again I hope he proves me wrong.

they'll have to have a look at the interpretation from the referee
Fucking outrageous comment. I don't think there was any fucking doubt as to the "interpretation" of ANY of those cards. It was just dumb actions on our part every fucking time. The insinuation that a different ref on the day.... fuck off. What a fluffybunny, more and more looking like he is out of his depth.

This is a big test of Razor - time to be ruthless, because he hasn’t been until this point. I don’t really care if you have to drop a whole lot of players now or debut players against the WCs in a fortnight - sort it out.
Today was another missed opportunity selection wise - I would have looked at 6-2 potentially today to give it a go, Carter too.
Players have become too comfortable in this environment. We play a lot of dumb rugby and if you keep rewarding those who are playing it, you get more dumb rugby.
I will say we have quite clearly missed Roigard the last 2 games - he’s class and it’s a clear drop to the next level.

Am I right in thinking Ratima has gone backwards this year for the ABs, or are his workons just more obvious?

I believe he's been going backwards for a year or so. Christie played much better than RC has to date this test season. And I hate to have to say that

Issue One: Poor discipline. You can't concede three YCs and expect to win.
Issue Two: Lack of leadership. We really lack someone who can impose their will on proceedings when things turn to custard. We had plenty of leaders in previous eras.
Issue three: The game plan. Too much aimless kicking. Not enough retaining the ball, not enough line breaks or even attempted line breaks.
Issue four: Dreadful aerial work. We must be the worst of the top ten Rugby sides in the world in the air. We have been for some time and nothing gets done about it.
All this speaks of a somewhat arrogant, complacent coaching set up. Improvement and more ferocity is needed and fast.

These stats are not good viewing. How the score is that close beggars belief.
Thats the stat i was looking for - 40 missed tackles. Thats whats bizzarre. I reckon at least 10 of them were on their 12, that bastard ran like an animal the whole game (pretty sure he was on for 80). We dont have anyone like that.
AB backline looks like a bunch of middle managers, 'composed, communicators' etc but noone who puts their hand up and wants to hurt some people when they carry and defend

Solutions:
-
No more Beauden Barrett at 10. He lacks composure and authority. I'd pick DMac or Ruben Love there for the rest of the season.
-
No more Sevu Reece. Time to move forward with genuine pace like Leroy Carter or Caleb Tangitau.
-
Bring in a recent ex-referee (ideally from the UK and Ireland) to work with the squad and explain to them clearly why certain actions are always going to result in a YC with a non-Kiwi ref.
-
Bring in someone from an AFL background to work on the squad's aerial work. Someone like Mick Byrne but 20 years younger.
-
Shake up the leadership group. Fast track Wallace Sititi and Cam Roigard to senior positions. I also want to see Dalton Papalii back in the squad for both his playing and leadership abilities. Jim the Difference needs to be in the 23. Some more experienced guys need to concentrate on playing well enough to stay in the AB jersey.

Something rotten in the selecting, coaching, and preparation.
Farming out selection to each assistant is a pussy head coach move. Man up Razor, this is your team.
This idea of selection by each assistant only works if the team has a clear approach to play that is agreed upon and acted upon from top to bottom. This team does not have that.
Change is needed - if it isn' players, sack some coaches. If Hansen is the main man in the backs, turn them all over to him and hold him responsible; equally the same goes for Holland. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say, and it tastes like shit.
You've got guys playing significantly worse in the Black jersey than they were a month ago in Super (or European) rugby. That's on coaching and preparation and I doubt that these guys can figure out why because they dumped the previous admin on mass, so there is little institutional knowledge to provide guidance on where things are going wrong.
Assuming that a coach won't get sacked, then the coaches have to show that they have the balls to dump senior players right now. If they believe they have the right game plan and can prepare players appropriately, dump these guys for poor performances and reward those who come in and play accurately.

Berry is an Aussie
And a Martian would have ruled all three YCs the same way

Other than to appease the marketing men and to keep his other family members happy, why on earth are we persisting with Beauden Barrett in the All Blacks 10 jersey?
I can't remember the last time he played well in the 10 jersey for the ABs. Certainly not this year and not last year either.
Other options at First Five are available.
