I've played Torrey Pines just north of San Diego. Arrived for our tee time about 40 minutes prior and missed Tiger by about 10 minutes the staff in the pro shop told us.

Hey everyone, seeking a bit of advice. I only played golf for about 4-5 years, and as I started at 66 and don't practice, I am pretty ordinary. Anyway age thing etc, I was thinking I may go to a set of Hybrid irons, Powerbilt have a set that aren't too pricey etc, senior shaft as I got slow as f*** swing. Does anyone know anyone who has played with them, or similar. I not inclind to go to golf shop etc and get into paying biggish money as without kidding myself, I see me lasting playing the game for about 5 years tops. I kind of want to keep going, as getting out there and swinging the clubs is good bit of exercise , and thoroughly enjoy the mates etc at the club. Any advise etc appreciated, and I can't believe how I quite happy to accept it from a forum where I know noone as such, but basically this is one place I would actually take notice of advice!

@Dan54 cant help sorry, I dont even have any hyrbid clubs.
But, I'd say if they have the right shafts and correct sized grips, you wont be too far off - have you tried the clubs or is that not possible?
Thanks mate, unfortunately unable to try them.

@Dan54 I'd def recommend getting them re-gripped at the least, most standard sized grips arent really ideal for most men regardless of your level, I have mid-size with 2 layers of tape.
Interesting on the regrips mate, a few of the guys at club swear by bulkier or thicker grips too.
Anyway have brought myself some hybris irons, ot really hybrid more a crossover. Really love the feel, light shafts and quite heavy (it seems) in head. As there no driving ranges etc around here, (and I don't practice anyway) I have only tried them once and I think they will be good. Certainly getting ball in air etc a lot better. Mind you when I played with them last Sunday (our club's comp day) it was so bloody windy it was hard to get real impression.
I laughed , I have a 3 wheel ride on buggy, for when I do 18 holes, and I got off and was about to play a shot, looked up and buggy was being backward by wind!!
Actually wondered about my sanity, getting out for 18 holes again in that weather, as over winter I usually just stick to Wednesday Wackers we have at club over 9 holes. The wind was so bad, we were genuinely struggling to stand in it at times, one hole I putted missed, and the wind blew ball back into the hole.
Funnily enough, really got me quite keen again though, so torture time will be happening more from now on!
