@booboo At the end of the game the ball got grubbered into the Counties in-goal.

One of the Counties reserves forced it. Rolled over to sit on his arse and flipped a double bird at someone (possibly Shalfoon). A dick move.

Following that, there was a bit of argie-bargie - didn't seem like much to me, but I wasn't paying much attention. Nowhere near the intensity of the scuffle at the end of the Canterbury Taranaki game.

Didn't look like anything Vic Cavanagh would have disapproved of! 🙂

Wasn't there a late(ish) charge, possibly a shoulder charge, by Shalfoon around the time of the 'bird'?

Yes. Cheap no arm shot that went unpunished as the game was effectively over. Sums him up.

And surprise surprise his own fans are standing up for him 😂

Not that he'll ever get the chance to, but I'd like to see him try it on with some of the South Africans.

I'd describe him as a dick more than a thug.

I always thought the ABs missed a trick by not playing him with Keith Robinson

I just used Shalfoon as a loose case study based on one recent incident and one that riled up me and other fans of my team. Even though there was no consequences post the incident.

I did double down on saying we don't have many thuggish players these days.

Petty guys. Yeah. They are great in the teams we support. A right pain in the arsenin the opposition.

I see guys who are described as having mongrel as being lads with a bit of balance between controlled aggression (steps short of being a thug) and some pesty aspects.

Part of what I was getting at was we don't have those types anymore. The likes of Flavell, Robinson, Steve Hotton etc.

It doesn't fit well with the modern game. Management teams don't want to be paying someone a massive salary for them to be on the sideline for a prolonged period.

Not a grubby player but a grub move. Caleb Clarke when he dived on Solomon Alaimalo late after he scored a try to dislocate his shoulder which ultimately spiralled him downward is something I always remember.

9 month ban for eye gauging

Rugby Union: Loe banned for gouging

    breaking Paul Carozza's nose

Shalfoon is a grub. He put JRK on the shelf for 6+ months last year in a completely unnecessary shot to back of JRK's upper back/neck after JRK had taken a high ball and come to the ground.

    Ask Kyran Bracken

Dean Ryan. Kicking John Timu in the head in the same game

    Fake news.

All Loe was doing was heroically trying to make a cover tackle and Carozza BLATANTLY nosed him in the forearm. Absolute thug. Should have been banned for life.

Hell , I thought Loe was bit of thug, but there not that many. I know an old bugger, but some of the fellas being mentioned don't even get near a thug list. Funny thing is ones who have been a but that way, Loe (he was no doubt) and Bakkies Botha were both apparently great fellas as soon as whistle blew full time. I think a lot we think arebad just annoy us because they not on our side.

Smiley Barrett always loved a bit of good old fashioned boot work. Occasionally it even involved a rugby ball...

Funny what Jean de Villiers (super nice guy) said about Bakkies.
They got on great . . . except when on the field in opposite teams. He was thinking, jeez, it's like he doesn't know me at all!. We're total strangers!

Brad Thorn and a few other ABs said similar. Phil Kearns said same about Loe.

And carried that rep from his days at CCNZ where he was known as a grub. A skilled player, but a grub.

    @ACT-Crusader

    Yeah
You dont usually see a player like that progress so prominently into coaching.
Probably just considers himself a "hard man," but definitely a thug.
