England are playing Latvia in Riga. If they win, they'll qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

That's one of the least interesting groups - England could lose this game and still qualify. Much more in the balance for Germany, France and Italy (with Norway almost definitely topping the group ahead of Italy)

Sweden is bottom of their group - despite having 3 forwards who just cost EPL clubs 235 million quid a couple of months ago (Isak, Gyokeres, Elanga)

Not yet half time and England are 3-0 up. Kane's got two of them and England are heading to North America for the World Cup.

Kosovo might make the playoffs ahead of Sweden. And it's not a universally recognised independent nation.

The Farore Islands might make the play offs and they're not an independent nation as well.

And Scotland's not complete out of it either.

And England are the first European team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Latvia 5-0 away to top their qualification group with two games to spare.

The Faroe Islands have a very tricky road to the play-offs unfortunately - have to win in Croatia and hope Gibraltar can hold Czechia to a draw. The Faroes population is just over 50,000 so it is ridiculous that they do so well. Apparently their potential playing pool (men of the right age) is around 7,500.

And Cape Verde (pop approx 500K) is the second smallest country by population to qualify for the world cup with only Iceland being smaller.

Ange officially gone. I think this might be remembered as the worst coaching decision ever when you think they were coming off European qualification and the coach was sacked mid season.

Shame for Ange, he seemed like a decent guy but taking this job was a terrible decision from the start and he should have had the sense to see that. Ego got him in trouble I think.

You would hope Ange got paid well for those 39 days. I wouldn't want to work for the big fat Greek.

Ego got the owner and Ange in trouble. Just an incredibly poor decision

Financially it was a fantastic decision - hardly won a game in 2025 but he's had a Europa League bonus, a Spurs payout and now a Forest payout. Now he should take the Rangers job to get a payout for his Christmas shopping.

Financially sound for him. He will get a job somewhere else, as you say he is still remembered fondly in Scotland. Meanwhile we will see if Nottingham Forest can survive the relegation battle

Lol after already managing Celtic? It's almost an illegal act in itself if that happened. Looks like it will be an Aussie taking the Rangers gig funnily enough.

Stupid for Ange to take the gig in the first place , and now he probably won't get a gig in a top 5 league again.

Well we went top for a few minutes and our away fans started singing stop the season we won the premier league. lol
Can understand late penalty but not often given so far away from ball, just hope refs continue to be consistent in that application.
Still take any points from going to Palace and we often bring a lot of energy to any game, so a good watch

Ange may get the Celtic job given their current troubles (lost to Dundee today) and they did go back to Rodgers

Yeah woudn't surprise me, and Rodgers wouldn't be a bad option at Forest either.

The Glasgow teams are a mess right now.

That was the game of the weekend, both sides played some great stuff - Mateta could have had 6. Felt like a game that could have been 0-0 if both sides tried to play on the break so maybe the early goal released the shackles and they just went for it. Watched these highlights (so much they had to cram in) and then watched the highlights of Burnley v Leeds and the contrast was stark - those teams both looked like relegation candidates and they struggled to fill a highlights package.

Watched a fair amount of Liverpool v United this morning (missed the goal) and although Liverpool had enough chances to win it, they were very structureless - just throwing on lots of forwards and lumping it towards them - and with a decent midfield, United could have picked them off on the break. Liverpool's start feels a bit like City's last season. Decent start with some dodgy performances and then the wheels fall off.

So la liga have abandoned their plan to take o game to Miami (for now). One interesting thing was the players themselves protesting - after the initial kickoff, they all (every team across the league) stood still for the first 15 seconds. (The league tried to deal with it by showing a view outside the stadium and having commentators read a message).

I've never seen players universally annoyed enough to take action on the pitch. The only thing I can compare it to is the missing man formation in NFL but thats a way of acknowledging/honouring a death and doesn't actually have any impact on the game.
