323 runs in a day is good going.

    Especially from 73 overs

Yup, they went on and on about how stupid it was that England didn't declare at 9 down lol, Brendan Julian and David Warner being the worst culprits.

Whist I always admired him as a batsman, I didn't warm to him as a player or captain (though I guess i would have if he'd been English), however as a pundit and comms man he's shown a much more human side of himself and provides interesting and thoughtful analysis on the play. One of my favourite cricket pundits to listen to.

lots of chat about a changing of the rules re slow over rate on twitter but i don't know what they're referring to - any suggestions?

How is it possible or acceptable for a professional team to bowl 74 overs in 6.5 hours?!

Forget WTC points: start penalising runs.

    That will make them shift.

Whatever the result of the match, we won't have to see Hayden with all his kit off. That's the real bonus for both sides here.

Delighted for Joe Root. An utter gent and one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

Mitch Starc excels again with the pink ball. England really struggled with his pace.

There's been some great Aussie Glovemen over the years, but Alex Carey is one of the very best.

Australia's mean first innings score at the Gabba in the last decade is 400+ so England are still at least 80 runs short.

The slow pace Australia got through the overs is shameful. Someone needs to censure Steve Smith (again).

Probably that to get over rate penalties the innings must be longer than 80 overs. So if England are bowled out quickly tomorrow morning the Aussies are fine.

Australia might be discovering the hard way that their second string pacers - especially Doggett - aren't taking wickets against many teams (except probably our top order).

Starc 6/71, and then effectively nothing else, beyond Neser being economical.

And that's the issue: they're not taking wickets? Ok.

But they're going at 5rpo. Not ok

That's a pretty fucking good catch from Marnus...

Root 138* - that's some effort. Effectively carrying his bat after being in at 2 for fuck all

Opps, Jamie Smith drops Travis Head. That could cost his team 150+ runs.

    Nup.

Still that must be close to the best opening stand this series?

Australia motoring along here. Taking full advantage of some placid English bowling.

Huge pressure on Atkinson to take a wicket on behalf of English cricketers.

Marnus gets out to a fairly lame delivery. Why attempt to cut that?

Gotta say Archer looks very sore or injured, and to be harsh: he doesn't seem to have the mental fortitude to fight through it.

Starc is also going to hope Cummins and/or Hazelwood are back for Adelaide, as he's carrying this whole team right now and it was starting to show.

Australia deciding to do dumb things and getting dumb results, despite looking dominant since the first break
