@MN5 I think GP won us a test in SL a couple of years ago - came up clutch with Santner. I guess they prefer his all round ability, can see why. Do you lose your place because you're injured?

    https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/823509.html?class=1;template=results;type=allround;view=match

Absolutely, throw in his incredible fielding and he makes a compelling case, of course if this test was in India you'd put both of them in for an incredibly strong batting line up but with the need for a keeper and four pace bowlers that won't be happening here.

Like I said earlier though, if the selectors decided to reward Bracewell for his toil I wouldn't have been surprised ( and the team hasn't been officially announced yet anyway )

Toil is all very well, but he couldn't make the breakthroughs to win us the game, he barely troubled the Windies batting lineup

Harsh but fair call. Got the second top score in the first innings and woulda got Roach on review but perhaps I'm clutching at straws a bit.

The real lucky bugger in this squad would appear to be Conway.

I'm very glad Bracewell didn't get selected. Reminds me a bit of Grant Elliot. Works really hard, is a really useful limited overs player but not good enough at either discipline to be able to succeed in tests.

Be interesting to see whether Phillips bats at 6 or 7. With Hay on debut, I'd be tempted to put Hay at 7 to take off some pressure, but his FC record is very strong so they might put him in at 6.

Hays record is amazing. It's about time someone put pressure on Blundell to be honest who has been safe despite some periods of non contributions with the bat.

I reckon Wags Salmon Jacket will become as iconic as Richie Benauds cream/beige/off white/ivory/bone one.

    What a fantastic ensemble.

This must be one of our most inexperienced bowling attacks ever?

Love the first morning of test cricket.

    Let’s go!

It's as green as the outfield.......

But let's be positive, huge chance for one ( or more ) of these guys to step up and dominate.

Seeing close ups of Rae smiling from ear to ear as he was chatting to the kids before going on the field made me happy, hope he goes well.

Ian Bishop tells us Chanderpaul has a side strain. Big loss for them.

Disappointing start with the ball, Foulkes especially struggling to hit the right line and length.
    Runs coming way too easily.

    VERY untroubled so far.

Campbell has an ordinary record and King isn't even a regular opener.

Interesting decision to bowl first after the way the Christchurch test ended.

Jeepers, almost run out in the first half hour of a test !

That's pretty unforgivable for a guy batting so well. Sharp fielding. Never a run there, lucky he turned so quick.

35/0 from the first 7 overs.

Bowling has been poor, give the ball to Tickner and Rae while it’s still new, see what they can do.

    Absolutely pop gun so far.

Not sure Tickner or Rae will offer anything more than this though.

To think I thought Henry, Jamieson and O'Rourke would have a crack at these guys !

Our shit catching continues as Latham drops a tough chance low down diving to his right at 2nd slip.

    Harsh.

That was a VERY tough chance.

But still in the books as a dropped catch unfortunately.

Michael Rae having his first bowl.

Shades of Chris Martin with that headband over the Daryl Mitchell haircut.

Unfortunately not much of a first over to write home about. Hopefully just nerves.
