Tickners pre bowling ritual is weird.

But as the only bowler to look remotely dangerous we can cut him some slack.

Funnily enough, it's the fresh bowler looking like doing the damage. Now 2-for.

70th test match at the most beautiful ground in NZ today.

    https://basinreserve.nz/about/test-matches/

Quite cool looking through the list, we've gone from years and years between tests to having three in 2017 !

Basin is 8th on the list, up there with some iconic venues and the first that isn't in England or Australia.

Windies would be far happier at lunch than us even if they had won the toss and batted. Being sent in? ecstatic.

Brilliant. Nice comeback after some rubbish early on.

That puts NZ in charge I reckon.

Michael Rae has cult hero written all over him with the chrome dome/headband/beard combo.

Sounds like a bowling version of Mitch Jr

If he wore a headband they'd be inseparable.

Speaking of bowling, in the little player profile thing at the start Ravindra, Mitch Jr, Phillips and Foulkes were all listed as "all rounders"

Some fit the bill better than others. I don't remember the last time son of John actually bowled. Far too busy being one of the best batsmen in the world.

Between Wagner and Raes efforts Wellington is fast becoming the Milan of the southern hemisphere.

Roston Chase averages 12.6 in NZ. Hopefully the BCs realise this and take full advantage. Not exactly batting by example while here.

It's part of what made the first test so crazy, not only losing 2 front line seamers, but also Mitchell not being available to pick up some of the slack. He'd have bowled a ton of overs.

Speaking of that as the commentators have alluded to there wasn't much of a break for Duffy and Foulkes. They might be feeling it. Batting first to give them an extra day or two might have been more sensible.

On the playing role profile things, Latham and Conway are both classified as wicketkeeper batters by Cricinfo too. So we have 3 keepers, 4 all-rounders and 3 bowlers, with little Kane to carry the load as the sole batsmen.

Tickner with 4 now, really making the most of this opportunity to claim his spot.

I also saw that our leading wicket takers in this team are Glenn Phillips and Kane Williamson. This reminds of the days when Vettori would have more centuries than the top 5 combined.

Rae gets a well deserved second. Greaves gone caught behind. Faint edge but they all count.

    182-6.

Hay with his first catch in test cricket.

Let’s hope that Windies tail is all wagged out after the first test.
