@hikastags don't disagree at all but while others are using world rugby regs to their advantage you have to do the same thing or get left behind.
Personally I'd probably change the regs to parentage only but you can only deal with what's Infront of you at the time. -

From a Welsh perspective, I guess from the low ebb we're at we need to start looking down these avenues. We've never really taken this route as "professionally" as maybe Scotland and Ireland have in the past.
Cahill & Riley Higgins have been in the WRU's sights for a while I think. Given the mess the union are in here they're probably partially looking at this as a way of getting some public support for their plans to close one of the professional clubs. Are you trying to say Van Der Merwe and Tuipulotu aren't born and bred Scotsmen ?

God I would laugh if Higgins fucked off.
There would be a certain new Welsh fan on here if that did happen.
We could call him "Mike The Poach"

@MN5 In fairness to Tuipulotu he is of Scottish blood and has a Scots grandmother in the stands watching him play...I don't mind that.
Its the come over for 3 years playing pro rugby then play international while you are living here that doesn't sit well.
Ireland have done it for years like Scotland- Japan -

I've always thought that time under a pro rugby contract should count at 50%. So if the residency is 3 years, if you're only there to play pro rugby it should be 6 years
The current system gives an advantage to nations that have strong domestic leagues (including NZ)

Agree wholeheartedly.
Lowe and Aki could have just as easily been capped for England or Scotland or France if the money was right.
That doesn’t sit well.
It’s not a moved to x country as a teenager, or family moved for work, or granny is from there situation.
They cherry picked their new allegiance based on cash and assurances of being capped.
That’s not what international rugby is about for me.
The Lions squad was a bit of a farce this year.

@MN5 that was a low point to be fair, and not forgetting Brett Sinkinson either.
Interesting article here with Howarth this year if you can be bothered to wade through a Wales online article - it's not for the faint hearted. -

I just thought it was like Sinkinson and they got the birthplace wrong.
It's a fine line with birthplace eligibility, (not that it counts towards any eligibility) but my grandfather was not on my Dad's birth certificate and rather than be added on to it back then he had to legally adopt my Dad when he was 6.
