Crawley's resistance now ended by Lyon - and very sharp work by Carey.

Lyon after two wickets in his first over of the game, then a long drought, is back on the boil.

That's the big one. Crawley denied a hundred. Lyon on the charge. Vultures are circling above the England dressing room.

Cameron Green trying to bounce people out looks like a recipe for leaking six an over.

/GOM it's annoying that the graphic at the bottom always displays "Australia need 4 more wickets to retain the Ashes" instead of how many runs England need to win. No shit, England are 6 down, I can do the math. Please just show a running total of how many runs are needed you clowns.

Anyway, 167 to win with 4 wickets in hand, 2nd new ball just taken. Aus will be exceptionally keen to wrap this up with the new ball, or will start to get a bit nervous.

Looks like they have lost Lyon
Can’t see England getting that close but would love it they at least put the pressure back onto the Aussies for once

Smith throws it all away in typical Bazball style after playing a blinder. Damn. Game, set and match.

Starc was turning into cannon fodder, but Smith has gone for one big hit too many

I can hear some furious tapping, it's Geoffrey Boycott all the way in Yorkshire writing his latest article......

Fox and Australia both arguably going through the motions this morning.

If Brook wasn't such a village idiot, England might have won this by about five wickets.

England win that session, but still unlikely to win the game. Though with Lyon out that opens the door just a bit. The manner of dismissal for Smith was so frustrating...

Boland and Cummins will have to do the work for Australia.

Starc has briefly reverted to being the bowler that Warnie used to give flak to.

Cameron Green is the most expensive specialist fielder in IPL history.

This is why England were so frustratingly awful in Perth - as unusually there are some real journeymen in this Oz side.

    2nd innings 100 run lead, 9 wickets in hand….
    No Cummins, no Lyon

Well that was a decent effort from England in the second innings - best I've seen Crawley bat, he looked really assured. And they got some runs from having a deep batting line-up although it always looks a bit fraught.

Surely England must take at least one of the 2 remaining tests now the series is gone and so is Lyon?

Well that's the end of that nonsense.

I can't wait for Boycotts column. Should make for good reading.

England showed more guts and determination on the whole but still not enough, as @Donsteppa said this Australian team aren't without weaknesses but their big guns stood up when needed.

It must be shit being in Oz, 3-0 down, series gone already, knowing the press will be ripping them apart and realising they have to man up to try and get a bit of respectability.

.....and maybe some "moral victories" along the way too.

Oz might relax a bit, no Lyon makes things a bit closer........

    I'm picking 4-1.

Congratulations, Australia on retaining the Ashes again and in just 11 days! They are a team of ruthless winners and deserve every bit of success

England fought really hard today, probably for the first time since Day One of the series. But they are still inferior to Australia in batting, bowling and fielding and seem to be much worse in terms of team spirit and pride in their national shirt and cap.

Despite the injuries and the possibility of rain in Melbourne and Sydney, I'm still picking 5-0 to Australia.
