I'm missing some of the whispers, is Tony Brown being chased for Joseph only or for combining with other coaches?

Regardless of what lies ahead in future for Razor - the added benefit of experience overseas is he will expand his coaching network/tree.
And I wonder if he works with Scott Hansen again..
-
@Cyclops Scott's 51 now.
Someone else is going to do two years. Then there will be someone for four years.
Is six years enough time to do penance and redeem himself? I'm pretty doubtful.
After that, he's getting long in the tooth unless he's done something fabulous.
I think you just run out of time and people have long memories.

So a little side discussion, who thinks this should be the end of Razor's AB career and who's willing to give him another shot?
If he goes away, coaches some other teams successfully, maybe some lower tier teams, obviously outside of the Cantab bubble, then I'd be happy to see him given another shot in the future, he's still a young guy. For reference I've never wanted to see Mitchell anywhere near NZ rugby.
How come ? strange guy, ended a couple of careers which NZ has never forgiven him for.....Not sure if all the behind the scenes chaos under Razor happened under his watch though ?
Wait what? Were you not in NZ at the time? They were a clusterfuck off the field. There's a number of player books from that era that provide examples. There was cliques and factions all over the place which was one of the first things the new coaches had to fix in 2004.
The on field success they had was due to Henry's Blues game plan, and their failure in the crucial match was due to not adhering to one of the key parts of that plan which was aggressive forwards.
Unlike Razor he should never have been promoted to the job. He'd had one average season with the Chiefs yet somehow fooled a panel to allow him to go on his "journey".

No I wasn't.
I certainly get he wasn't exactly popular but that seems to pale in comparison to what I've heard on this thread about Razor.

@Chris-B We're in some weird alternate universe where I think the Crusaders coach could possibly get another go and you don't.

Remember when everyone was mocking Robbie for having a pretty mediocre win-loss record with the Wallabies?
And pretty much all subsequent coaches have had much worse records.
You start to think Robbie wasn't that bad!
I don't want to go through that pain to get Razor back!

I wasn't on the Fern at the time so I don't know what the threads were like back then.
He was just an utter dick though. He sent out a young Jerry to face the press after the Oz loss. He "dropped" three injured players (Cullen, Goldie, and Cribb) which impacted their finances - Cribb wound up fighting NZR for years about it. IIRC there was a clear Cantabs v the rest clique which was what Henry needed to break up. He made Taine and Kees play for the Baabaas against the Maori when they both wanted to play for the Maori team. That's just some of the stuff I remember. I think him and Deans used to get on the piss a bit and were clashing with players over that too. (There some stuff I know that I don't know if it's public knowledge or not and I don't want to break the player's confidence ... hopefully none of the above its that stuff).

Apart from being a Cantab, Robbie wasn't that bad. I always said I'd rather he'd have just got the coaches role instead of Domehead.

Fair call.
I only knew about half of all that.
Maybe similar stuff will come out about Razor, I suspect it will.

Head Coach: Jamie Joseph
Attack Coach: Tony Brown
Defence Coach: Dave Rennie
Forwards/Set Piece: Vern Cotter
Technical/Game Management Advisor: Joe SchmidtThat's the ideal set-up IMO. Will probably need a skills & scrum coach also.
And a good mental skills coach seeing how fragile some are.
Yes, re the mental skills coaching - a balance of individual mental skills development and as a team - potentially a two person approach e.g., someone with proven expertise in strengthening individual athletes and the other from a military background e.g., Navy Seals with a couple of Hell Week camps included in prep for the RWC.
Not sure if that's shit works.
Think Camp Staaldraad.
Interesting, never heard of that event before though had heard about boot camps for juvenile offenders don't work. The SA camp sounded bizarre and from the summary the activities/approach weren't in line with standard military training.
I seem to recall the ABs trying something similar. Perhaps 99? And there have been stories of AFL teams destroying themselves on these sorts of exercises. Not a fan.

I actually just remembered something that Goldie Wilson said on Breakdown. He hopes we go back to traditional All Black rugby, as we have drifted away from it.
Anyway, I just waiting to see who get's the gig now. I am a JJ fan, and had wanted him for sometime , just a feeling I have, no great knowledge or anything. And as much as anything , if he gets it who will he get in his group,Is it fair to say Jamie Joseph was a bit of a grub as a player?
Remember a bit of biff from him against the English, not that I'll hold that against him.
He was a grub as I recall
Kyran Bracken's ankle would have a strong view on that.

Another thing about Razor, is he put himself forward as this 'culture coach' which is all well and good if things are going well, but with all the reports on here, he seemed to fail miserably at it and flog everyone off to either Scott Hansen or just ignore every issue (along with treating Dalton Papali'i like a dog).
It baffles me that he was seen as that guy who put culture first, and did the complete opposite to it.
Who put HIS culture first.
The Saders lapped it up.
The ABs rejected it.

Plus they really have to build depth at 10. It's been one of my personal gripes. I have been disappointed with how conservative Razor's mob have been with that backline.
It was obvious that Robertson was in a holding pattern at 1st 5 until Mo'unga returned. The threat of losing also leads to conservative selections. The new AB coach needs to be bolder and be prepared to make some tough calls.
There seem to be hints that the Scott Bros didn't like the intuition which came with DMac and Love. Not the way they were used to.
