Honestly, the more i think about it the more i think Cotter is the ideal short term (2026 & 27) appointment.
Seems like a hard nose, no bullshit bloke who will get buy in and be able to shore things up. He's been around the block, knows international rugby, been in some tough coaching situations before.
He's not a sexy pick but he might be the right guy for this time and place.
See now you making it hard lol. Although I hadn't had Cotter in my thoughts, I agree, I would be happy with him too. So now I have to admit to being happy with any of Cotter, Joseph or Rennie.
Make me think perhaps we not too bad off in coaching.The most important thing that needed to be done has been done.
It has to be ruthless from the top down.
Whoever gets the gig going forward now has the spectre of being sacked mid tenure hanging over them.
A couple of players need to be shown the door too, to show the guillotine can reach the grass.

Henry only won one, but I agree. There seem to be a few odd ideas floating around - that nobody can work past 65, that certain coaches wouldn’t be willing to be assistants, or that their egos are too big for them to work together.

agree with the idea of working past 65 although also like the idea of someone younger and having rea stability for a long time....But i definitely think there are people out there that wouldnt want to be an assistant and 100% believe there are personalities that cant work well together

agree with the idea of working past 65 although also like the idea of someone younger and having rea stability for a long time....But i definitely think there are people out there that wouldnt want to be an assistant and 100% believe there are personalities that cant work well together
Of course but we don't actually know, for example, that Rennie won't be willing to be an assistant coach or that Joseph and Cotter wouldn't be able to work together, do we? That's just supposition. Or is there some evidence of that? There was some talk about Robertson not wanting to be an assistant coach but I don't think I've heard anything like that about the others. It seems a bit like an uncapped player turning down a chance to play for the All Blacks if he has to sit on the bench.

So much going on, has it.been discussed.that Brown said Razor approached him last year and that he had no approach prior to Razors appointment (inc Razor who it was.rumoured wanted TB too)
So with the whole process, JJ would have to have applied in 2023 and included TB in his team, so kne assumes either JJ didnt didnt apply (which was rumoured) or JJ applied without asking TB (unlikely)

has hansen thrown razor under the bus to save himself, " i was only doing all the coaching because razor wasnt and someone had to try!"
Should def. be judged on his coaching ability but one of the rumours was Hansen was taking players' concerns to Robertson, but they ended up in a black hole. It true, seems to indicate he was at least trying to sort things out and doing his best, but we'll never know.
If that's true am wondering what was going on for Razor i.e., was out of his depth, wasn't getting sound advice/mentoring re how to manage disccord, his mental health and/or all of the above ....hoping he's getting some good support. Can't be great to be him right now.

i hadnt heard that before! i was under the belief both Razor and Fossie had asked him when they went for it after 2019

Interesting comments he made from an assistant coaches point of view,
It is right that NZR would want to know who a HC candidate would want as his assistants.
But the candidates shouldn't be the ones actually putting their coaching teams together.
It would be up to NZR to see if they can actually get the assistants wanted, as some of them may not already be employed by them.
Seems that both Robertson and Joseph wanted Brown on board.
There shouldn't be a problen with that; in fact it should make it easy for NZR, one assistant coaches position sorted; no matter which HC candidate they eventually went with.Dunno how far down the line the process is, but I can see it taking quite some time to get the whole coaching team together.

If you look at the nuts and bolts of the Brown case; some one at NZR (probably Lendrum) has to make the call to his opposite at SAR.
As opposed to Razor, Lendrum seems to be able to articulate very, very well (to well?).
But even then, the final decision on something like that would still go further upstairs.
Someone like Rassie would have only an indirect say, but know exactly what his comment would be . . . tell them to FUUUUUCK OFF. -

It's not beyond the realms of possibility, Hansen coached alongside Joseph & Brown at Sunwolves in 2018, then alongside Brown at Sunwolves in 2019, then he became Japan defence coach for 3 years, from 2019-2022.

Just the small issues of him being strongly disliked by the squad, failing to improve the ABs in his first two years, and being very linked to Razor.
