Now that New Zealand Rugby has clarified the criteria and process for recruiting a new All Blacks head coach, and two promising candidates have already ruled themselves out, the question is not whether a choice has to be made between Jamie Joseph and Dave Rennie, but whether both

Interesting suggestion of Stephen Larkham as an assistant coach for the ABs in here.

He hasn't been mentioned much but I think it's a great shout.

He's done a pretty good job at the Brumbies IMO.

A team packed with superstars whose only sure thing is the canes in Canberra. I'm far from convinced. Something about him screams no for me.... and I'm sure NZR will take that into account.

I'd say there's almost zero chance Larkham will ever be an assistant coach here.

Ever seen NZR sack a coach halfway through his contract?

@frugby Could have been his agent making a polite enquiry back in December or taking a flyer late in the day. Not confirmed fact though.

Reckon that's just Watson picking a name at random to sound like he's "thinking".

    I quite like Mark Watson.

A bit of random wild card, but he isn't afraid to get personal and call players or coaches out.

Devlin and co, the Breakdown crew, Aotearoa Rugby Pod, they all hedge their bets.

@Frank Yup same. At least someone fires up a bit if we're underperforming.

I think he's too Australian unfortunately. In that I mean I can't envisage him wanting to ensure that the Wallabies continue to not have the Bledisloe.

I do like the way his teams attack - he'd be a good assistant for backs/ attack coach.

Basically saying a Rennie/Joseph/Foster Cartel would be awesome and similar to the Ted/Shag/Smith trio. Wonders if JJ & Rennie could work together. but points out Foster and JJ get on well and Joseph almost joined Foster in 2019.

Sounds like a pipe-dream, but who knows?

If they could put aside egos, it would be a great combination to get at least two of them. Three would be magic.

What at first looked like as a very slick, performance manoeuvre by NZR is starting to look like the same old amateur-hour fumble by the so-called guardians of our national game.

No, just because there is silence doesnt mean much. People who werent going to get the job anyway have ruled themselves out.

Going forward with Razor was clearly not an option.

    They did the right thing.

Devlin just said on his latest podcast with TJ that Mitch had messaged him saying โ€˜no chanceโ€™ so guess we can rule him out of any assistant role.

No chance they will have me back in a million years

Seems to be down to Rennie & Joseph getting on. Gregor Paul doesn't think ego would be an issue with Foster.
