Silkworm's Michael Dahlquist died on Thursday, July 14, 2005 in Skokie, Illinois. While he was stopped at a traffic signal, a Mustang driven by ex-model Jeanette Sliwinski intentionally plowed into the car he was in (she was attempting to commit suicide). Douglas Meis and John Glick, Dahlquist's friends and fellow musicians, were also killed in the crash.

Evil bitch survived. Poor taste to choose Swervedriver's "Son of Mustang Ford," so instead I'll opt for:
Seem FNM twice in the past 12 months, once in Auckland, the other in New York. They put on a fantastic show, despite Mike Patten being in a bit of a pissy mood in Auckland. His vocal range and skill is quite something.
you lucky lucky man. King for a day still my fave albumn ever made. I remember it was int eh tape deck of the ute I drove to school in 7th form the entire year - never took it out, just looped it all year. Never got sick of it. Seen them live only once, but thought they were shit hot. Very tight, and yeah, Patton is absolutely amazing on the vocals.

Switch from songs like Caffeine to Easy to Get Out to Epic, all just so naturally. Easily the most under rated vocalist out there.

Anyway, I'm still doing my best to get into the new Linkin Park album. I think for the most part, it' s apile of shit. But some of the experimental songs are quite catch. Other songs worth listening to.... you can never go past this classic from Aerosmith.
Not to be too pedantic but I don't think Patton is eligible for the title "under-rated". Too many say he's very good at singing many different styles and ranges.
Have you seen Junior's grades? Guilty Pleasure Time.

I intensely, almost pathelogically, despise Van Halen. And yet, when I hear either of two songs by them (as I did on the radio yesterday), I cannot help but crank it right up. Those two irresistible VH tunes are:
First time I caught SP they were obscure unknowns - Gish had been released maybe a month but couldn't be found in stores - nobody in the crowd knew them --- Corgan with long hair, wearing pyjamas and playing a guitar with planets on it -- looked like a prototype space-cadet . . . until a girl threw a quarter at his face and he showed some serious attitude picking it up and flinging it right back at her and warning her if she tried it again he'd come down and kick her ass. Great stuff!

If you are a big fan, definitely try picking up a rental on that new (awesome) Rush documentary - Corgan's testimonials are the most confessional and passionate. He tells a moving story about his difficult teenage years where he sat his mother down and made her listen to "Entre Nous" (from "Permanent Waves") telling her that if she really wanted to know about their mother-son relationship, then she needed to listen to that song with him.
I saw the Smashing Pumpkins when the came here in 2008. It was one of the most disappointing concerts I've ever been to. Their set list was crap, and they really didn't seem that in to it. However, Queens of the Stone Age opened for them, and they were fantastic. (setlist FYI)

Had my tunes on shuffle, and a live version of Moon Dance by Van Morrison came up, rather than skip, I let it play. He's such a great musician.

'Santa' got me a ticket to the Stone Temple Pilots show in Auckland this March, I'm very excited about that.
Her music is used on TV commercials to sell cars, and my friends housewives (who are less into music and more into Oprah and Martha Stewart) own & play her CD ... so I'd reckon she's already kinda big. Popping up on all sorts of year-end lists.

Is that the criterion for being "big"? House wives own your CD?

For me, yeah, household name-recognition with my friends' housewives equals smash-hit, 'cos by-and-large those housewives don't follow music. (Then again, the housewives are also humming Arcade Fire this season, so I guess that confirms them as officially huge now, too.) Rare to go without a tv commercial break up here the past few months and miss the regular Chevrolet spots w/ Monae's "Tightrope" in constant rotation.
