Pushing Tin - Paekakboyz Training Log

decent workout - hands were a bit sore bit it only really bugged me on bench. DL's felt pretty good - I think my grip strength is improving which makes that final set easier, no slipping etc. Hoping to sneak in a sat morning workout to keep momentum up. Have a 30th friday night and a mates welcome home bowling comp on sat arvo - could be tough to fit it in!

Had friends from overseas visit during Easter so no gym work. Did manage to build a decent sized garden box outside and got to shovel plenty of dirt around - good core, back and arm workout! should be back at the gym on wed for day 2 of my programme. It's been nearly a week again since I last did squats so I won't be pushing the weight up this workout. Def want to see some improvement in weight lifted for DL's and squats in the next 2 weeks or so.

Sweet!! pain and agony here I come ha ha!

Nice advice Bartman! knocked out a PB at squats today. 1106, 1206, then 130*6. Was pretty chuffed with it. Felt like I had a bit in the tank but I superset my squats with a core exercise so I decided not to add another heavier set. Rest of the workout was really good. Looking forward to next squat workout though!

Feeling it today! woo hoo!!
-
The rest approach works again! pb on DL's tonight and managed to sneak over the 100kg bench mark. Was very chuffed. Sweating like demon and was seriously blowing on my DL supersets!<br />
Cranking along at 3 sets of 6 for these now plus the matching superset exercise<br />
Squat 130kg - moving plank on bosu ball<br />
Bench 100kg - bent over barbell row @ 60kg<br />
Dead Lift 120kg - ripper core exercise <br />
<br />
Aiming for 150kg+ in squat and would like to do the same for DL's although I get the feeling that will either take me way longer or I'll have to go for lower reps. Actually my hands tore up a bit on DL's today - might look at gloves to avoid nasty callouses... only happens on DL's though. I get that pinch right at the base of my fingers - not sure if its because I use alternating grip or just due to my hobbit hands!<br />
<br />
Either way I was very pleased with today's effort. Amping for wed night now!! -

I've found the hands tend to toughen up over time, don't get me wrong my hands are still far more "office boy" than "farm boy" but I've always given gloves a miss. Obviously the hands hurt a fair bit afterwards on occasions in saying this but it does get easier ! -
yeah I'd prefer not to use gloves - seems a bit stupid as it'd only be for DL's... don't need them for any other lifts. Have seen some different sorts of grips on the web - the hook grip seems to have the bar away from the palm of your hand to stop it slipping. Reckon I'll try that out and wait for the hands to toughen up some.<br />
<br />
Seen a couple of guys use chalk at the gym too - haven't noticed any rules against it so that's also an option I guess. -
Man I read a few threads about people treating their callouses.. using pumice, lotion, nail clippers and some folk even nibble on em... ugh!! some funky mofos out there ha ha. <br />
<br />
Bartman surely you have to dial back the power or smash your poor keyboard into tiny pieces!! -
Boom goes the dynamite! Excellent session tonight. Started at 120 on squats and did the 2nd/3rd sets at 130kg. Reckon I could be having a crack at 140 in a couple of weeks. Would be primo to be lifting 150 or so mid-late June. Rest of the workout was good. Have increased reps on my dips, tricep pull downs, bicep curl supersets and my arms were on fire! felt super pumped when finished! did someone mention a gun show!!? lol<br />
<br />
Have noticed my love handles a bit more lately - not so much due to putting on weight but the squats/DL's have leaned down my lower body quite a bit - definition in legs esp is coming along nicely. Guess I'll have to pay a bit more attention to kai intake or up my cardio - I imagine a combination would be the best route. -

Good hit out tonight. Last set on bench was a bit tough but it was only the second workout up at a hundred. DL's were good, grip wasn't such an issue but still got that pinching at the base of the fingers. Should have some lovely callouses developing soon <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Off shopping for kai tomorrow night so will be thinking about better options for lunch/dinner - we normally eat pretty decent but its always the stuff on the side that gets ya... at least for me. -
Love those callouses eh. Good sign of time in the gym (plus the physique of course). My nancy boy accountant hands cut up real easy so have taken a while to get use to but some solid lumps there now.<br />
<br />
Re the kai - there is some great food out there thats still good for ya. I use to crave a lot of crap food but nowadays hardly touch it. Cant remember the last time I had a pie from the bakery -
Picked up a fair whack of tuna and brown rice at the supermarket last night. That'll be me sorted for lunches next week <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Very good workout tonight. First set of squats felt like nothing, second set was pretty easy too so I was going to jump from 130 up to 140. Figured I'd better not get cocky though and ended up on 135 and it was a solid lift. Shoulder press went up a bit and increased reps on my dips, tricep pushdown, bicep curl supersets - arms were on fire!<br />
<br />
All good - goal to hit 150 on squats seems a lot closer
