Latham as man of the match makes sense to me. He was at the heart of our first innings that brought us level. If he gets a small hundred then the whole complexion of the match changes.

The thing that irks me about motm awards is that they can never decide between giving it to the single standout performer (which for me is Shakib) and the player that had the biggest impact on the match (Tommy but I think there are arguments for Shakib and Kane too)

It is Sunday, in the middle of January.... and fuck all have turned up to watch test match cricket at the Basin, the Basin needs to be shunted down the pecking order of test venues.

What a load of shit baron. Despite how they've done so far in this test the bangies are hardly a drawcard for big crowds and the nation's weather hasn't helped either. Your Bay area cricket grounds will never compete.

It is a test match, and there were probably couple of hundred in the ground.. on a Sunday... in mid January.

    It is just pathetic.

But you are right about the weather, Wellington has shit weather.

Only two grounds have sold out a day of test cricket in the past 10 years in New Zealand, AFAIK. Hagley has done it twice - on Boxing Day a few years back and for McCullum. The Basin Reserve will always sell out at least one day when India, Australia or England come. Seddon Park, University Oval, McLean Park and Eden Park have not sold out a test in that time frame. I really would like to know where you think we should be playing tests.

Plus there's the history of the Basin that no other ground in NZ can come close to matching.

@hydro11 Not knocking the Basin as I would always have it as NZ's number one venue but bit misleading to say its sold out and Eden Park hasn't given EP has approximately 6 times the Basin's capacity

Back to the topic at hand. Anyone else think the manner in which they lost, injuries, lack of results, short turnaround and the fact they probably all have one foot on the plane mean that the Bangies are gonna get destroyed in this test?

I'm picking a massive win for the BCs weather permitting

Yes and I've been right every time too.

Seriously, the bangies are gonna get beaten bad.

So that's 2 highly improbable test wins in a row after taking 9 Pakistan wickets in the last session last test.

@Virgil Unfortunately every time I have been on that band wagon it has a collapse and we are still going nowhere.

Fear not, @Snowy ! McCullum reinforced it when he was in charge and Williamson is providing preventative maintenance.

She's as secure as she's ever been!

NZ won the game because we pretty much matched their first innings mammoth total through a daddy 100 by Latham. Putting the nervous novices in a position to wobble in a no-win third dig.

Therefore IMO Latham was our match winner, and the obvious choice for motm.

Good point. We need to implement a 'no fatty's allowed' policy to avoid a repeat.

That's true. Eden Park has actually got some decent crowds in the past to test matches. It has just looked poor on TV.

I have been on both of those wagons - the service is shit and I haven't moved in over a decade.

Thanks mate I feel so much better knowing that nothing has changed.

Actually that is quite depressing as a Craps fan. She's going to fall apart the moment a decent team arrives and we all walk again. Fucking wagons.

It's the Black caps way, we pound the worst touring sides around, are now the best BCs team ever. YAY! a tour to SA / Australia / India! Now we'll show them!.. oh...

We've been a bit better then that in recent times thanks to Kane, Ross and Boult. But yeah, we tend to make pretty ordinary players look like world beaters at home against the Bangles etc. The recent tour to Aus should be enough to keep people's feet on the ground leading into Aus/SA in NZ next.

It's a stretch to put Boult in the same echelon at KW and Rossco lately too.

That attitude is the modern aussie way though, and we're always trying to learn off them.

Wait until the sky is falling again for them in a couple of months when they have been raped in India.

Although at least they have picked the Marsh boys as easy scapegoats
