@Crucial what is wrong? Maori don't get them tied to NZ, JABs (or NZ A when they called them that) does...?

When was the last time the JABs or NZ A played?

I had a feeling (could be wrong ... it's happened when I overhype Chiefs players) that NZR had nominated Maori ABs as second team at some stage.

@booboo I don't think that NZR would use the Maori as the second team because it would not capture any of the non-Maori elligible players.

According to Wiki the JABs last played in 2009.

@Bovidae as I said there's more than a small chance I'm wrong, but I seem to recall they may have done that in years when there was no JAB/NZA.

          @Crucial

I'm pretty sure TNW & Lowe were both heavily pushed on here last year, Lowe probably got more hype last year than the idea Dagg would get switched to 15.

For all the shit the Saders get for once thinking Hamilton was a potential AB, they do have a far better strike rate.

          Rancid bait.

TNW wasn't even playing in NZ last year, he was playing XVs in Japan and Sevens for Samoa. If anything, Chiefs fans tend to shit on him far more than anyone else.

Lowe was getting hyped early last season because he started the season fantastically, Savea was playing like shit and Naholo was always injured. His form fell off later in the season and there was a lot less talk of him as a result.

@booboo possibly in those years in the late 2000s where there more than a few of the normal raised eye brows about the heritage of a few players?

              From the All Blacks website:

The Junior All Blacks are considered New Zealand's 'second XV' after the Test side, with no age or genealogy restrictions other than the player being eligible for international selection.

The first such team played under the guise of an Under 23 team, with future All Blacks legend Sir Wilson Whineray captaining a squad to Japan in 1958, with this age-grade side playing their last match in 1984.

The Junior All Blacks, who first played officially in 2005, claimed titles in the 2006, 2007 and 2009 World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup – the latter of which was the last time the squad assembled (as of 2014).

For official purposes this team is not considered defunct ...

The New Zealand "A" team was a development team. This is what the intro to an article on the website of the NZ Rugby Museum says in an article about a NZ Development team touring Canada:

In 1990 a New Zealand Development team made a five match end of season tour of Canada. They were the first team to carry this title but their role appeared very similar to that of New Zealand Emerging Players who had toured internally in 1985 and 1986. Another Development team toured Argentina in 1994 and during the 1990s further NZRU teams were fielded: New Zealand XVs in 1991,92,93, New Zealand “B” in 1991 and New Zealand “A” in 1997,99 and 2000.

About James Lowe's reasons to sign with Leinster:

Departing winger James Lowe has cited his place in the pecking order of wingers in New Zealand rugby as his reason for signing with Irish giants Leinster and says he hasn’t yet considered the possibility of suiting up for Ireland.

The 24-year-old has been on the fringes of national selection for several seasons and the national selectors had been in regular contact with Lowe who could see a long list of players ahead of him in the pecking order.

"Re-signing Izzy [Israel Dagg], and Bender [Ben Smith], you've got Jules [Savea], Waisake [Naholo, Rieko [Ioane], Damien [McKenzie], Melani [Nanai], I mean the list keeps on going," Lowe said.

Lowe was also diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, a condition that left him bedridden.

That and the list of injuries he's accrued during his career played into his decision to cash in while he still could.

"I mean it's a scary prospect thinking it could all be over very quickly, so I guess in a way, especially with my arthritis and I keep on breaking as it is anyway, it was an awesome opportunity that came up and hopefully if I'm smart enough I'll be able to set myself up well."

And while New Zealand Rugby, the Chiefs, and the Ta$man Mako$ were keen to keep him, the money from Leinster was significantly better than what NZR were offering.

"I guess there was a gap, yeah."

Lowe doesn't have any ancestral ties with Europe and the prospect of qualifying for Ireland on residency in three years' time hasn't crossed his mind.

"That's not at the forefront, I haven't even played for Leinster yet, so one step at a time."

Lowe will play the remainder of the Super Rugby season with the Chiefs as well as the Mitre 10 Cup campaign with the Mako$ before departing for Ireland.

A more in-depth interview with Lowe about his health being part of his reasons for heading to Leinster. The guy's had it tough, no doubt, but it reads oddly for a guy moving to a new club to talk about 'breaking down' and having a slow recovery from injury.

If I was Leinster management reading this, I'd be having second thoughts about a three-year contract.

@Pot-Hale Probably just a bit of clumsy Kiwi phrasing. He's had a couple of significant injuries.

Lowe should be a very good signing for Leinster. I picked him a couple of weeks ago to be the top try scorer in Super rugby.

we had a few injuries last year with wingers , he didnt get a look in then ,

So its probably not going to get easier for him , and we prob see more of this unfortunately , soon as guys think the AB jumper is too much like hard work , money becomes the priority instead

Interesting player Lowe , has an interesting skill set ,

Craig Dowd on radio today hinted he believes we will see him wearing Green in 3 years , not sure if he knows something , or it was just a gut feeling

Whining and poaching makes them the new Australia. It would take added arrogance and self entitlement to make them the new England.

The core reason Ireland are my 2nd most loathed team (behind Aussie) is because in 2006 (?) They came over as triple crown winners, with their greatest ever team, O'Driscoll, O'Gara, O'Connell, O'Stringer, O'D'arcy, O'Issac O'Boss etc. And we had the Argies a week later / earlier, so Ted was doing rotation & we played some of our 2nd strings & pissed about playing Richie & Holah left & right & they full on lost their shit at the lack of respect that we usually reserve for the (non poached) brown chaps from Samoa, Fiji & Tokoroa when they tour early season.

                                    And then we beat them.

It's one thing screaming "respect me! I demand it! You almost killed us that time!" but then losing is just sad.

Totally agree. Especially as during that 2006 tour we beat them 34–23 and then 27–17 a week later, after pumping them 45–7 in Dublin the year before.

2005/6 was the peak of "BOD coulda doied"-bleating post Lions tour as well. That got very tedious.

Really shits me we lost to them last year. At least England have a reason to be arrogant: they've won a world cup, beaten us a few times, and will shortly have our Tier-1-consecutive-record-minus-Cyprus thingy.
