Rewatched Rogue one over the weekend with my boys and, obviously it's Star Wars so therefore awesome, but probably not quite as amazing as I first thought?
Forest Whitakers character is just irritating and fucken pointless and Krennic essentially gets out acted by a CGI character. Also K2SOs comedy isn't really that good. I'm also curious as to why the Asian guy with the machine gun is the only guy in the saga with a weapon like that? My boys also struggled with the fact that Moff Tarkin blew up Scarif knowing full well heaps of his troops were down there, obviously Sith betrayal is a big part of Star Wars lore but they were confused as it was ' bad guys blowing up bad guys....'
The occasionally cheap sounding theme music was poor too, they had the rights to all the classic noises like AT ATs, Tie fighters, lightsabres etc, why not the theme too?
All that said the final battle is as good if not better than any in the franchise ( the attention to detail is just fantastic )and we rewatched Darth Vaders massacre about 10 times in a row. That scene is beyond ruthless. Numerous fanboy moments went down well too.
Here's some fun facts. It's the first SW flick not to feature a Jedi lightsaber ( obviously DV whips his out at the end ) or mention the name 'Skywalker' and Anthony Daniels is now the only actor to appear in all eight flicks.

Well that gives us fuck all to go on.
Hopefully half the movie isn't cheesy Luke/Rey training montages although I suspect a lot will be.
I've heard geek rumours that Super AT ATs will be making an appearance.
Three new Star Wars flicks in three years. For those of us who had to endure the drought of 83-99 this is soooooo good. Our kids don't know how lucky they are.

I've just got round to watching Rogue One (I'm not quite such a SWs geek as some), I found it a little patchy. The build up was, to me, a little slow and dare I say it dull? But the second part when most of the action took place was, I thought well thought out, good narrative and the action sequences were really well done. The CGI on Grand Moff Tarkin wasn't so bad but Princess Pasty-Head was a bit more plasticky.
All in all a good filler until TLJ arrives.

I watched it again last week and agree with all that you say.
One of the key things for me was the lack of John Williams score. It really made it not seem like a SW movie without it until the second part where the soundtrack became more familiar.
Knowing what has come out since the release it is now quite obvious that the end movie was quite a bit different to some of the stuff and story line they originally filmed. I think that adds to the 'patchwork' feel of the first half.They managed to mesh the end of the movie well into Ep IV though. The only credibility stretch was Vader being so kickass at the end of RO then catching up with them a little later only to walk on set and put his hands on his hips and doing a gay twirl.
