If Gatland wants a more specialist 7, then I'd be picking vdF or Dan Leavy before O'Brien.

@SimonAdd_2 No need for debate - it's a definite trend from him and unless they take him aside to work on it, I'd put money on him seeing at least a yellow at some stage during the tour. Just ask Stuart Hogg....

All we'll have to do is run DMac at him as a sacrificial ploy.

Kolisi wrapped his forearm around DMac's head and Peyper was super quick to brush it off and simply claim McKenzie fell into it.

Peyper will ref one of the tests too. Although he might not be so lenient if the offender is a different nationality to himself.....

The New Zealand Provincial Barbarians squad is named tomorrow (Wednesday 12 April). The squad will be made up of players from outside the frontline Super Rugby squads, and players from Mitre 10 Cup, Heartland Championship and age-grade level.

Talk on the Scottish Rugby sites is how it would be great for loads of Scots to miss out on the ultimate honour in British rugby just so they have a strong team for the Oz tour. They all know Hogg is a shoe in but they hope the Grays, Seymour etc miss out.

Such loser talk. No wonder Scots Rugby has been fucked for so long.

A dose of resigned reality and fans getting their silver lining lined up ahead of time?
In the last 4 Lions tours Scotland have had a grand total of 11 players selected.

One of the more successful Lions tours to NZ (93) had a very good Scots contingent though so maybe Gatland will be missing a trick if he focuses on those south of the wall and across the Irish sea

Aside from the Hastings brothers, the Scots that toured in 93 were pretty much a let down. Though Andy Nichol did OK as a replacement. The tight 5 forwards were an embarrassment.

Ah, but it's all about the intangibles that the Scots bring to the touring group, not the playing abilities πŸ˜‰

Joking aside there is probably a little truth in this. Not sure if you have been to the shaky isles but Scots would feel far more comfortable here than the English. We have a more similar connection in attitudes, habits etc.
I know I feel more 'at home' when in Scotland than in England despite having a pommy mother and having spent more time living in England than Scotland.

Talk on the Scottish Rugby sites is how it would be great for loads of Scots to miss out on the ultimate honour in British rugby just so they have a strong team for the Oz tour. They all know Hogg is a shoe in but they hope the Grays, Seymour etc miss out.

I can read between the lines thank you. The bile probably stems from a couple of hundred years ago when the English were rampaging through Scotland, raping and pillaging. They got to MN5's folks place, turned their noses up at the tin ornaments and to a man refused to rape his great, great grandma due to her being a munter. These chippy Jocks don't forget an insult like that.

It's cos Scots are awesome and the English are fluffybunnies

Notwithstanding the possible truth in that statement it must have galled you as a wannabe ginger woad that the Scottish contribution fell so alarmingly between the 89 tour to Aus and 93?

I can read between the lines thank you. The bile probably stems from a couple of hundred years ago when the English were rampaging through Scotland, raping and pillaging. They got to MN5's folks place, turned their noses up at the tin ornaments and to a man refused to rape his great, great grandma due to her being a munter. These chippy Jocks don't forget an insult like that.

She woulda offered them the finest oatcakes and shortbread too.

@SimonAdd_2 No need for debate - it's a definite trend from him and unless they take him aside to work on it, I'd put money on him seeing at least a yellow at some stage during the tour. Just ask Stuart Hogg....

It's cos Scots are awesome and the English are fluffybunnies

Notwithstanding the possible truth in that statement it must have galled you as a wannabe ginger woad that the Scottish contribution fell so alarmingly between the 89 tour to Aus and 93?

It was more that the players sucked. I think the numbers were similar from memory.

                                          9 Scots in 1989
                                          9 Scots in 1993

                                          Yes, fairly similar.

The 9 in 89 were pretty much all hall of famers though. Hastings x 2, Jeffrey, Calder, Sole, Armstrong....White was good too.

The 93 lot were, as alluded to, a fucken disgrace for the most part.
