Had the house to myself on friday so went for some out n out boys movies.

Conan

Shit! Do not waste your time let alone your hard earned.

Cowboys and Aliens

Ok. I do wonder how good this movie could have been minus the aliens. The western aspects, stereotypical injuns aside, were excellent. Harrison Ford is a much more interesting bad guy than leading man these days. Daniel Craig, ridiculously tight pants aside looks like he'd make a pretty good "man with no name" type character too. Just a shame the plot was so far fetched. It's sci-fi I know but it was a bit ridiculous.

Plenty of good bit though so still worth a watch.

That is cos it's awesome, Richard Curtis is a genius. The best ensemble movie ever. Shits all over dross like Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve.

Saw Mission Impossible 4 the other day and thought it was the best of the series. Action scenes are well done and the story is pretty good.

Saw it at the new Titan screen at Reading Cinemas in town and the sound is brilliant. Screen looks good too but the surround sound really gives it an edge.

Loved Tolkein's books but not a big fan of the movies. I enjoy them but think they could've been better.

I watched "Field of Dreams" last night. Kevin Costner cops a lot of shit, but that movie is pretty damn cool i reckon.

If you want another movie that sort of slipped under the radar but was pretty damn good as well you should have a look at Secondhand Lions , Michael Caine and Robert Duvall are brilliant in it .

Yes definitely, I watched that Christmas Eve and thoroughly enjoyed it again.

Watched Battle LA and Season of the Witches Christmas Day - thought they were both quite good.

Last week went to the cinema and watched the 1959 Ben-Hur. Finally got to see it on the big screen and the one of the the most epic scenes in cinematic history - the chariot race.
That movie truly was the hobbit of its day - the money thrown at the production and done in such intricate detail.
260 to 1 - the ratio of cut to used footage of the chariot scene.

Was dragged to the Muppets. Much better than I expected, with some good wit & humour. Not great, but good. 7.5/10.

Will do Tintin, Hugo and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in the forthcoming week...

Movies i have watched over the last few weeks that I would recommend as difinite watches are

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - don't expect Bourne identity action, this one is a slow burner, but completely engaging from scene 1. Close to a 10/10 on the dk scale

Money Ball - good sports movie, well worth watching if you are an MLB fan. 7/10

Contagion - another excellent movie, I went into it with low expectations, but has a great ensemble cast and Mrs dk said it had very good reviews. Again a bit of a slow burner 8/10

Saw Tintin today, was good stuff.

The extra FX courtesy of Mother Nature (there was an earthquake during a chase scene...) is something only available in Christchurch theatres, however.

watched STONE on Sky. oldish movie. it sucked. 2/10, because it has deNiro and Ed Norton, and because it had those two I kept watching and waiting for the movie to be good. I was ultimately disappointed!!

Then watched a 1994 movie with Brad Pitt, which is on again this Friday and saturday, which is handy, as 1, I can't remember the name, and 2, I feel asleep before the end, but was a top movie. Four boys go to 'boys jail', get abused by the guards, then cut to them grown up, and two have gone bad, and two have gone good. The two bad ones have just killed one of the guards that abused them, and my eyelids got heavy about then. Think one of the 'gone goods' is the DA and will have to prosecute them? ANywy, been superb until I feel asleep!

haha, I started watching Stone the other day, and decided to stop...lucky me <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> I also scanned over that Brad Pitt one, maybe I'll record it afterall.

Contagion - thought it was ok, good cast, decent storyline if not a little slow moving IMO
A Lonely place to die - set in the Scottish Highlands, 4 climbers/trekkers find a Serbian girl buried in a box in the middle of nowhere, was ok, some tense moments, but could have been better.

Tintin. Not awesome, but still pretty great. 7.5/10. The photo-realism of the action sequences was spectacular, loved the pirate action, and the scene transitions were really well done. It's been going a week and the theatre I was at was packed with kids and adults (conversely, the Muppets film was half-full of adults with one single kid spotted), so I expect a good anticipation for the sequel.
