Best Christmas set movie = Love Actually.
<br />
<br />
Yes definitely, I watched that Christmas Eve and thoroughly enjoyed it again. <br />
<br />
Watched Battle LA and Season of the Witches Christmas Day - thought they were both quite good. -
Last week went to the cinema and watched the 1959 Ben-Hur. Finally got to see it on the big screen and the one of the the most epic scenes in cinematic history - the chariot race.<br />
That movie truly was the hobbit of its day - the money thrown at the production and done in such intricate detail. <br />
260 to 1 - the ratio of cut to used footage of the chariot scene. -
Was dragged to the Muppets. Much better than I expected, with some good wit & humour. Not great, but good. 7.5/10.<br />
<br />
Will do Tintin, Hugo and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in the forthcoming week... -
Movies i have watched over the last few weeks that I would recommend as difinite watches are<br />
<br />
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - don't expect Bourne identity action, this one is a slow burner, but completely engaging from scene 1. Close to a 10/10 on the dk scale<br />
<br />
Money Ball - good sports movie, well worth watching if you are an MLB fan. 7/10<br />
<br />
Contagion - another excellent movie, I went into it with low expectations, but has a great ensemble cast and Mrs dk said it had very good reviews. Again a bit of a slow burner 8/10 -
watched STONE on Sky. oldish movie. it sucked. 2/10, because it has deNiro and Ed Norton, and because it had those two I kept watching and waiting for the movie to be good. I was ultimately disappointed!!<br />
<br />
Then watched a 1994 movie with Brad Pitt, which is on again this Friday and saturday, which is handy, as 1, I can't remember the name, and 2, I feel asleep before the end, but was a top movie. Four boys go to 'boys jail', get abused by the guards, then cut to them grown up, and two have gone bad, and two have gone good. The two bad ones have just killed one of the guards that abused them, and my eyelids got heavy about then. Think one of the 'gone goods' is the DA and will have to prosecute them? ANywy, been superb until I feel asleep! -
haha, I started watching Stone the other day, and decided to stop...lucky me <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> I also scanned over that Brad Pitt one, maybe I'll record it afterall. <br />
<br />
Contagion - thought it was ok, good cast, decent storyline if not a little slow moving IMO<br />
A Lonely place to die - set in the Scottish Highlands, 4 climbers/trekkers find a Serbian girl buried in a box in the middle of nowhere, was ok, some tense moments, but could have been better. -
Sleepers is the one IIRC, with Robert De Niro as well??
-
Tintin. Not awesome, but still pretty great. 7.5/10. The photo-realism of the action sequences was spectacular, loved the pirate action, and the scene transitions were really well done. It's been going a week and the theatre I was at was packed with kids and adults (conversely, the Muppets film was half-full of adults with one single kid spotted), so I expect a good anticipation for the sequel.
-
Saw Tintin as well - thought it was very very well done. As you say terror - the action sequences were bloody good. Loved the humour in it as well. Both my kids loved it - and my son now can't wait until the 2nd one. I remember reading the Tintin (and Asterix) books as a kid - so I was already a fan before watching the movie. Well worth the price of admission.
-
is it worth watching in 3D?
-
The 3D is very similar to Avatar - in that it enhances the all round feeling - and really puts you in the middle of what's happening. Rather than the gimicky 3D where you get shit jumping out at you, the scare effect type 3D. I thought it was well done - and worth going to a 3D theatre to see it. What's the difference in 3D prices compared to 2D in NZ?
-
prices diff is buggar all, well up here anyway (think it is $16.50 inc glasses vs $13.50 for 2D) was more that 3D doesnt enhance some movies, whereas others it does.

Drive - Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Ron Perlman (aka Clay Morrow) and Bryan Cranston (aka Walter White) <br />
<br />
Thought it was a good story, just moved a bit on the slow side, but had a decent cast present who all did a fine job. -

I enjoyed the elevator scene. -

I thought it was a good film, despite the fact it disappeared up its own ass on a number of occasions. The critics love it though, it's been appearing on lots of top 10 lists. You forgot Albert Brooks on the cast list there, he was brilliant as a nasty piece of work.<br />
<br />
Ryan Gosling seems to be in everything these days. -
I quite like him as an actor, so I guess he is getting lots of gigs cos of that <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /><br />
<br />
at RT - yeah the elevator scene was good, bet the chick was a wee bit disturbed at the apparent randomness of it all!
