Saw Wonder Woman today, great origin film, and if you like comic movies you love it. Nailed it, IMO.

    Plus Gal Gadot. 👌

Damn Gal Gadot is fine, so so fine.

Wonder Woman was good, best of the recent DC movies so far.

I had a few issues with it though and felt it dragged in parts. There was some average effects at times and I think the premise would have suited WW2 better than WW1. The Wonder Woman action was pretty good though.

Oh, and Gal Gadot is hot, hot, hot.

@Stockcar86 I will check out that podcast, looks interesting.

    The Last Face

    alt text

38 minutes I lasted on this self-indulgent piece of crap. I managed that much simply because it had Charlize Theron. The script is almost non-existent. The cinematography is appalling. I've seen better direction in Bumfights. If I meet Sean Penn, mine will be the last face he ever sees.

    T2 Trainspotting

    alt text

As sequels go, this was much better than I thought it would be. Perfect timing too, to see how the laments, bitter recriminations and regrets after two decades played out. If you liked the original, definitely see this.

Rating: Four grams of heroin into five faulty veins.

Highlights for me were Renton and Sick Boy doing their musical number and Renton meeting Begbie in the toilet.

@antipodean OMG Alexander was so, so shit. The accents were the worst. Colin Farrell's Irish, Angelina Jolie's fucking Lady Dracula...ugh.

    Beauty and the Beast.
Loved it. Brilliant cast, perky musical numbers, sweet story. My only gripe was the actor who was the prince wasn't hot and I wanted him to change back into the Beast. Belle agreed, as per her request for him to grow a beard at the end.
4.5 tales as old as time out of 5 songs as old as rhyme.

    Table 19
Allegedly a 'Breakfast Club for adults', romcom/drama about a table of misfits at a wedding. In reality, unfunny, unromantic, and a really stupid storyline. Tonally all over the place, one minute you have this weirdo kid walking up to a stranger and telling her he has a big cock, next minute an old lady is toking up the dope because she is dying of cancer. Waste of a cast. Incredibly stupid plot points that will never work in a romance (eg if your portray the 'hero' as a loser douchebag for most of the movie, you can't expect an audience to swoon in delight when the heroine chooses him at the end. As for another plot point of introducing the sweet, hot guy for heroine to dance with/commiserate and chat with snacks/kiss...and then have him be the groom at another wedding? Fuck off.
1 stupid "oh shit, we smashed the wedding cake" gag out of 5 "I'm wearing the same outfit as the waiters LOL" gag.

I loved Mad Max Fury Road. Anyone watched the Black and White version? I'm not sure what the benefit is?

And Charlize is hot with the shaven head.

    I wasn't aware there was a B&W version.

I also enjoyed Wonder Woman. Using WWI is a departure from the comics which use WWII, but was apparently to show a war that was hell for everyone and where both sides had reasonable-ish cases for war, rather than get overly bogged down by Nazis.

I think it actually worked against the script as written by not having the Nazi's as the 'big bad' and instead focusing on a war that didn't really have a 'good' and a 'bad' side.

I'm watching this at work this week, not because I like the movie, but to give it another chance to 'wow' me (and have a two hour break from work).

I'm still bemused by the huge love for the movie as I found it pretty average (which as I've said before made it hard discussing the movie at work as I used to work with some of the effects people and one of George Millers long time producers).

@Nepia I've watched it twice and I still don't rate it, I wonder what I'm not getting too.
A close up on Megan Gale naked might have changed that.

Yeah, I've found a few people just don't get what the fuss is about. There's an element of there being too much hype so when they see it, part of their displeasure is almost out of disgust for how much some people loved it. Also, the simplicity of the plot is one of the things people like about it but it works in the opposite way for others.

Here's what I like about it:

    • The almost absurdly simple plot... in keeping with the rest of the franchise. There's something "a day in the life of Mad Max' about it.
    • It's unapologetic about what it is. There is a guy with an electric guitar flame thrower.
    • It's relentless
    • Covertly places Furiosa as the lead and she ends up being bad ass.
    • Crazy set pieces done with physical effects
    • The cinematography
    • I'm a cheesy movie apologist

That bold is a crock of shit and is similar to what La La Land fluffers like to say if you don't like that movie. I'm all for people liking movies, ones I like and ones I don't (unless it's Mullholland Drive, because really Lynch, you have a lesbian scene with Naomi Watts and I still don't ever want to see that mumbo jumbo again).

I've never said Mad Max was a bad movie, just average (and of course that's just to me), and I found the guitar dude to be cheesy and annoying. I really love the originals and prefer the grittiness of those first two.

    The Girl on the Train

This didn't get great reviews but I quite enjoyed it, though it was probably a bit long. Pretty grim tale overall, would be interested to read the book now.

@Nepia hang on, a lesbian scene with the lovely ms Watts? Excellent

That's a Lynch movie isn't it? His movies are similar to that Mad Max movie, some people rave about them and I wonder what the hell im not getting.
