US TV Season runs from early September to late May. But most shows only have 22 or so episodes. Usually there are new episodes in November, February, and May sweeps periods which are used to establish advertising rates based on viewing numbers, as well as September when the new season starts. The rest of the time, they mix in repeats and new episodes, usually a few grouped together to span the extra weeks.

Alternatively, they run two shows in the same slot. Once they finish the first shows run, they will run a 13 episode cycle of a second show. Usually, to introduce a new series. In this case, Touch is running in place of Bones. Fox especially has to do this, as they only program two hours a day of prime time TV versus CBS/NBC/ABC programing 3 hours a day. And their schedule s even tighter when American Idol is stealing 3 - 4 hours a week of their time slots.

probably waaay late on the piece, but Sons of Anarchy. Watched the first episode of season 4, and loved it. Since bought all 3 earlier seasons, and watched them over a couple of weeks. Loving it.

Bloody American Idol!! Hate that shit (and all the similar spin offs)

As far as I know, this is the first break they've had for Bones (well that has affected the showing in NZ anyway) I wonder if it is to do with the fact that
Bones & Booth finally hooked up rather than the old will they wont they and it has affected the viewer numbers??
I must say I'm not enjoying season 2 as much as season 1 (which I kept wanting to watch ep after ep). I'm finding it a bit disjointed (5 eps in), I don't find Martindale amazing but just annoying. I like it when it focuses on Raylin and Boyd the most, not so much on the Bennetts'.

In saying that I'm going to keep watching and I expect it will improve as the arc grows over the season. Winona is still hot!
Keep watching, Nepia. She turns out to be a fearsome woman and repercussions lead into the next season.

I prefer Ava to Winona. Ava's fiesty and loyal. Winona is a bit scatty and flighty.

BTW: I gave up on Homeland. I didn't like a single character in there and didn't care what happened to them. I've been watching all the Spartacus B grade crap instead. Excellent.

Haven't watched The Wire, but will. Ended up watching Alphas with our lad. It was okay.

    It was good wasn't it?
Series 3 (TBC)

The second series' final episode, "The Reichenbach Fall", was based upon "The
Final Problem", in which Sherlock plunges to his death (later, "The Adventure of
the Empty House" reveals that Holmes faked his death, though Conan Doyle had
meant to kill him off), but Steven Moffat felt that he and co-creator Mark
Gatiss had outdone Conan Doyle in their version of Holmes' fall and Moffat added
that, in that much-discussed sequence, there was still "a clue everybody's
missed."[57] After the end of the final episode of the second series, Moffat and
Gatiss both announced on Twitter that a third series was commissioned at the
same time as series two.[58] A part of the resolution to "The Reichenbach Fall"
was filmed alongside series two.[56]

Executive producer Beryl Vertue confirmed, in March 2012, that the third
series is expected to start production in 'early 2013', although it was too soon
to relate any transmission details.[59][60] Moffat aspires to tackle the fact
that eventually Watson will be living apart from Holmes, though he's uncertain
whether or not he'll have Watson get married in this adaptation.[17] Moffat also
wants to use other villains and adversaries from Conan Doyle's original stories.
Without revealing whether or not Moriarty faked his own death at the end of
series two, Moffat has suggested that Moriarty will not feature heavily in
future series of Sherlock

I thnk you knew something was up when he went to his friend at the Morgue and
asked her for her help, so you knew he was planning something, Iguess something
as extravagant as he did was even a bit much for Sherlock! I like that there is
a nother series, they have kept it short and sharp kept you wanting more.

Is interesting about Moriaty, as I thought that seemed to easy and too clean,
but possibly too far fetched for both of them to fake their deaths.
apparently Bones (aka Emily Deschanel) had a baby in real life which was mid-season for Bones and that was the reason....

Anyone watched The Confession with Keifer Sutherland & John Hurt?

Starting watching Alcatraz and 3 eps in

Nothing to get excited about but, like Person of Interest, kills the time in a reasonably interesting way.

It will really start to piss me off though if the whole plan is to let tiny tiny pieces of the underlying story out every episode and drag it out forever ala Lost, only to eventually reach a weak explanation. Otherwise it is simply a formula cop show.

The women in the show are fairly easy to watch though.
It's ratings are pretty shit, and it is 50:50 to get renewed. So if they don't reveal the "secret" in the final two (of 13) episodes, you probably will never know.

I'm not surprised .The show is well made and the premise good but Abhrams need to change up the formula of a mystery (or unknown back story) unpinning formula stories and taking the audience for fools, thinking that they will hang on every possible clue. I certainly got burned with Lost and give up during series 3.

These series need to be thought out like an HBO type production and have a definite evolving storyline that keeps you engaged. If it has to finish after one series then that would probably make better TV.

Homeland was disappointing in that regard as well. It looked like it was heading for a conclusion but the lure of a second dip in the studio's pockets was too much for the writers.

Yeah, it was a cop out. Would've been better if it had just been one season. On that note, Sleeper Cell handled the seasons situation much better.

Ok, saw it. This is my rant
What a fucking cop out. The great thing about the show was the "is he/isn't he" question of the first half. And the "will they stop him" part of the second. And so we get to the big climax, and what happens? Nothing. He doesn't do his bit, the CIA don't do their bit, and she goes nuts. Awesome.

As for the set up for the second series, how could they possibley use the same characters? She's nuts, and no longer works for the CIA, so has zero credibility. He hasn't actually done anything except shoot a real terrorist in the head (killing him with his personal weapon was hardly smart). So to continue the story will effectively be a crazy person stalking a congressman/senator for talking to a terrorist. riveting shit.

The series was great, and if it had stayed at one series i would have loved it, but the ending has left me a little bitter.
