Both those groups did at least a couple of decent tracks but the early 2000s was a pretty dark period for rock music.

Haha, fair enough. LP were miles ahead of Korn and Limp Bizket (who were truly terrible) mainly thanks to how outrageously talented Chester was. Those other two bands didn't have anyone on his level.

Haha, fair enough. LP were miles ahead of Korn and Limp Bizket (who were truly terrible) mainly thanks to how outrageously talented Chester was. Those other two bands didn't have anyone on his level.
Really? It's all subjective of course but saying Chester Bennington was outrageously talented even compared to those two is seriously pushing it. 'Nookie' and ' Got the life' are far catchier ( or perhaps I should say far less shit ) than anything Linkin Park ever did in my opinion.

I was never a Linkin Park fan (or a nu metal fan in general) but when I first heard LP in the day, they struck me as a poor mans Korn rip off. The first two Korn albums were ok (they were quite original for their time) but then the whole genre seemed to sell out. Life is Peachy is as good as Nu Metal ever got imo.

It also (should) put paid to all the well meaning "The door's always open, the kettle's always on.... ... and share to show that someone always cares" type of posts that start doing the rounds again on Facebook.
When someone's in trouble you usually have to somehow figure it out and then go to them... whether it's mental health or surf lifesaving...
People at that level of stardom have no shortage of people around who they could reach out to for support, and sure as heck could afford a private pyschologist or whoever. So if they can't reach out when they're in that much trouble, the 'average man on the street' won't be saved by well meaningly copying a status update about the kettle always being on either.

The first Korn album (from bloody 1994) was excellent. And really original. But they just never seemed to have another idea, and kept making the same stuff. From there, despite a few half decent tracks, they couldn't come up with another fully decent album. In my opinion of course.
Limp Bizkit just fucking suck. There was a brief period in the 90s when i didn't feel this way, but I got better. And it's been shown that not only are they pretty untalented, they are also giant douchebags.
Never a huge fan of LP, their first album again was something pretty cool. But they get very samey samey.
Still shit a dude was so messed up he felt this was his only option.

Pretty decent summary all in all but I don't have an issue with those bands doing the same stuff all the time ( ACDC and Rage have little variation in their stuff after all ) its more the fact they're absolutely crap as you allude to.

@mariner4life Don't disagree with too much of that, but I did enjoy follow the leader and to a lesser extent Issues. Limp Bizkit had some great tunes through their run, but in reality they weren't anything original. They were a focal point of my first job in the UK though, they always remind me of that fondly.
I've always liked Linkin Park, despite them in some ways being everything I hate about modern music. The fact they have produced hard rock, soft rock, electronica, and now pop records leaves me rather confused. But each time I've seen them they have been bloody excellent. There were in Macau in about 2010, where we had the front section tickets ... turns out the front section was about only 10 metres long, and vastly undersold. Was awesome chilling out with a pint and plenty of room with he band literally only 3 metres from you. Quite surreal.
