And in the most unsurprising result of the year...

A bloke who took up MMA because he was so shit at boxing versus the pound for pound best boxer in the world, who just happened to need the purse to pay his tax bill.

I don't disagree with any of this but it must be said. Either McGregor is way better than we give him credit for or Floyd is old and past it.

Floyd is old. 40 years old fighting a bloke in his athletic prime. I sincerely doubt he trained like he would have a decade ago and his entire motivation would have been; win to preserve his record and pay the tax man.

Yeah fair enough but there's countless stories of old fighters coming back for one last shot, he's hardly a has been. Is he really in that much trouble financially? Last I heard he owns a shitload of successful businesses.

How could you turn down 100 mil guaranteed to fight a guy who has never had a pro boxing match ever?

I read online somewhere that Floyd spent most of the evenings of the week leading up to the fight at the strippie. So I guess he wasn't taking it as seriously as he used to. It reminds me of the movie The Great White Hype

Floyd is a known night owl , always has been

spent most of his career in nightclubs leading up to fights , doesnt drink or smoke so he says its not a problem ,

trains late at night , sometimes as late as 3 in the morning and sleeps through the day ,

                Strange cat

I dont think it was rigged , An elite pro boxer was always going to outbox an MMA fighter ,

Was a fight for the man on the street ,it got them interested , rather than the hardcore boxing fan ( who still watched anyway )

The boxing fans know the real fight is next month , GGG v Canelo Alverez , the most anticipated boxing fight for some time

Neither of us can confirm if the fight was rigged but....

Complicitly orchestrated promo tour, talk of the massive money from the get go, massive amounts spent promoting, trash talk bordering on the scripted, massive money to both participants win or lose, a bout that every boxing authority said would end in a win to Mayweather (which did happen)

and after all that posturing and sharing aeroplanes...

                    after all that hype....

and then the actual fight lasts longer than a sensation but with the same universally predicted result

                    And the fight was fair????

Illogical would be one way to describe that

If there's talk of a rematch that'd be the icing on the cake

p.s. I will miss those dames in the blue cheerleaders outfits at every publicity event though!

Third option: Old guy who had only ONE official KO on his opponent in the last EIGHT years played cat & mouse with a novice. It was a dance. Cat stepped around ring to see what the mouse had, then upon discovering mouse had SFA that could hurt him toyed with mouse and got his first KO in six years. This fight was an over-hyped over-priced WWE-style contrived spectacle con-game manufactured to exploit and empty the wallets of half-brights.

Yup... but at least it was still better than I expected.

I'm not sure Mayweather toyed with him exactly. It certainly seemed strategic to tucker McGregor out though.

He certainly used the rules to his advantage too. That thing where you can try and close the gap and if doesn't work just show your back and your opposition can't punch you. That's annoying.

Pretty much this! Plus the 2 of the judges somehow had Floyd winning rounds 2 and 3 on their score cards!

I just think there was no way the boxing world was gonna allow a result anything other than a Mayweather win.

Maybe just too predictable? My TAB account agrees. Odds opened at $1.82 for a mayweather win which was crazy. Closed at $1.30odd but apparantly 50/50 split in terms of money placed at the NZ tab and a lot of late money both NZ and overseas for McGregor which is bit of a surprise.

I don't disagree with any of this but it must be said. Either McGregor is way better than we give him credit for or Floyd is old and past it.

That's annoying.

mayweather said afterwards , any danger for himself was early, the gameplan was to take him into deep water then finish him

conor wouldnt want to fight a canelo or a cotto , someone with genuine knockout power , a 40 year old floyd with brittle hands was a safer bet in that regard

He said it well before the fight too. Then did exactly what he said he would do

White will leave UFC and pair with Mayweather for some joint promotional team and form their own super fight league. White has no control over UFC anymore, it shows as well, it's clearly in decline and the irishman will be their first big signing. Jon Jones vs Brock Lensar likely happens under their umbrella not UFCs.
