What I like best about the movies is they stick to 'canon'. I think the moment that goes the series is toast.

The Han Solo movie also had a change halfway through.

Yep, was counting them. Guess I should call them two instead of one.

Their firing was weird. Hire guys known for comedies for making a movie too jokey.

I heard horrific rumours it was ending up more like Ace Ventura than a Star Wars flick. I'm all for a bit of comic relief here and there but not too much.

I read that their approach was way too 'ad-lib' for the execs to be comfortable. I think that initially they wanted an edge of humour but within a framework that wasn't being followed. I am guessing that what they were hoping for is something like Taika Waititi looks to have done with Thor.

JJ Abrams back to write and direct Episode IX after they turfed the other guy. Not sure how I feel about that.

Least there will be stability, little bit concerning how they have chewed through a few directors in the last 12 months.

I like the hard nose approach of not fucking around, remember they took the movie off of the Rogue One guy too and re did the final act.

But hopefully they are getting better at picking directors. Oh, they fired that Josh Trank Fantastic Four guy too, and canned the Boba Fett movie.

That’s four directors basically screwed over.

I don't think they took Rogue One away from Gareth Edwards - he did the reshoots on that one.

A new reports indicates that Tony Gilroy's payday for working on Rogue One reshoots included fixing the ended and taking a bigger role in post-production.

They paid this guy $5 million to come in and do the reshoots and re-write the third act. Which is the bit of the movie I liked, too.

    Finally saw Rogue One.

It's OK I suppose but felt like a movie put together to make money off the Franchise rather than trying to be really good.

It's Disney, so that's a given about the making money bit. That said, they did take some risks with that ending, no Jedi, no Skywalkers, so it deserves credit for that.

Opens the door for some interesting story in that universe now, less constrained by the trilogy approach. Sort of how comics have experimented over the years, and could end up pretty interesting. Or we could end up with more Caravans of Courage, who knows 🙂

Gareth Edwards has mentioned in a number of interviews working on the re-shoots and the ending ... hmmm, I wonder if they did it together?

Ok, so this link from you article suggests they worked on it together:http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/rogue-one-drama-writer-tony-916695

Watched the final part of Rogue One again last night. There is some epically cool shit there, but damn the 2 leads are crap. Not exactly warriors. Why do they insist on using tiny women for these roles? There is a 6 foot, ex-military Israeli woman out there who would be far more convincing.

I also think it was a bit of a mistake killing off all these guys. Some of them (the robot, evil admiral, green Akbar etc.) were really cool. Even the Samurai dude was OK if together with his psycho mate. They could have made a pretty mean spin off trilogy using this gang.

Yeah, they were nicer to him in the press. But at the end of the day they paid top dollar for someone to come in and re-write his ending and reshot the entire third act. At best you can call it a demotion/trouble shooting, but essentially he had the end/edit of his movie taken off him.

I think they learned from that to be more hands on with the directors (for better or worse)

That was pre-Disney owning the IP, so Lucas was the BSD who could do whatever he wanted

Leah was dead anyway but looks like Weirdo Renn kills her (unless she sends him a mind message with the force powers she appears to have ignored). Id put money on Luke getting killed as well.

Watching that you realise how shit the leads are compared to the original. Luke, Han, Leah, Obi, Darth, Yoda, Emperor etc. vs Rey, Renn, Po, Finn, Phasma and General Deformed face. It ain't even a contest.

I half agree with this. I think a lot depends on how Snoke is developed ( he has awesome potential ) but the rest of the bad guys aren't a patch on DV and Moff Tarkin.

I do quite like Rey, Po and Finn have a shitload of convincing to do for mine though.

    I also forgot Lando.

Kylo Renn could have been seriously cool but the farked it up big time. My eldest bought the toy and couldn't wait to see the film. Then of course he took off his mask, had a tantie and got his arse kicked by a girl who'd barely seen a light saber.

Can you imagine if Darth Vader took off his mask in ANH to reveal the 1977 version of Adam Driver? Christ that would have sucked.
