    Of late:

    Wonder Woman - a bit long in places. Sometimes this was bad (pointless dialogue) and sometimes this was good (thighs). Overall I thought it was pretty rad.

    :::

    Had trouble believing Ron Weasley's Dad could be Ares, tho.

    :::

    4 of of 5 fapfapfapfaps.

    Labyrinth

    Weirdly, when we were away up the coast this was on TV during an organised dinner. So we sat the kids down with Netflix tonight and watched it. So many
    cringey bus but still a classic.

    3.5 Bowie cod pieces out of 5

    I've said it before, and I'll say it again... if you haven't watched Labyrinth, The NeverEnding Story, and The Princess Bride - you're not a complete human being. Your soul is incomplete.
    Every single person I've met who has admitted to not having watched that trinity, I immediately think "ah, that explains it".

    @kruse you'll be glad to know then, that Princess Bride is being re-released in theatres for the 30th anniversary (700 theatres for two days only)

    I guess it was only mostly dead.

    Sweet - that sounds like a great gift for the niece/nephews/god-daughter/etc. Should give me a bit of credit to not need to remember birthdays/etc for another year or so.

    That was a US thing but could be worth checking out.
    Hopefully it will give the old Box office take figures a boost.

    Yeah - just checked... only in the US as far as the main website is concerned.
    Perhaps time for a well-timed letter or two to some well-placed NZ cinemas. And more selflishly, perhaps my local (Barbican - seems like the sort of thing they'd typically do).

    In anticipation of the new Blade Runner I just watched the old one. Overall not the most amazing flick. As if LA will look like that in the future ? Perhaps it's a bit high brow for a simple guy like me....

    How many film franchises can Harrison Ford redo?!?!?! Here's hoping he doesn't revisit Working Girl.

    @mn5 I read something yesterday that said millennials are totally unimpressed with blade runner - find it slow boring and basically meh

    They are used to the Michael Bay action movies that lack substance.

    Blade Runner is a classic. I need to find time to watch all 5 versions of the movie.

    Just saw the new Bladerunner and am pleasantly surprised, a worthy sequel.

    Old style movie that took its time and looked fantastic.

    I cannot grasp the Hollywood obsession with remakes right now. There are millions of books that could be adapted, and they keep remaking movies that literally no one has called for a remake of because 1 the original was perfection or 2 the original story was so fucking bad that it should have never been made in the first place.
    What remake has been better? (I see the next remake is going to be Hocus Pocus, the witchy story with Sarah Jessica, Kathy, and Bette. Why the fuck that needs to be redone, I'm sure I don't know...)

    It seems that TV is grabbing up all the books.
    I was wondering if we've got a skewed view of how many remakes/sequels/etc there really are compared to the past, but then a quick Asking-of-Jeeves shows there are 47 this year alone. WTF?
    And 121 in total in development? I gave up reading the list, when I got weirdly excited/depressed to see "Blue Thunder", being remade with a drone. A drone pilot who measures his sanity with a watch - how's that gonna work?

    100%. I can understand a remake of a movie if you think you can adapt it and make it better - like Beauty & the Beast or The Jungle Book. But a lot of the time it's just a bullshit money spinner that they know will be shit, but make it anyway as it will make enough of a profit.

    Full disclosure: I have a recent personal grievance against remakes, as my local was shut up for a week recently, while they filmed a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in there.

    Worth watching this non-spoiler review of the new Bladerunner.

    The film has stayed with me, I want to go see it again.
