Fair enough. How's this:

That's more like it although the easy availability of the latter can help outweigh the initial attraction of the former.

@Rancid-Schnitzel you are welcome to your own opinions but whenever it comes to SW stuff you are the biggest 'bah humbugger' of all time.
No, you're all just living in denial.
But seriously, how can you even compare the original characters with the current ones? It's like the Allblacks vs Tonga.
Nothing will compare to the original trilogy, movie making was different back then and Star Wars was unique. Also, your memory of it was set as a child, which makes everything better.
Luke's acting was not great in the first one, and Leia's was bad in the third.
Personally, I'm comparing the new Star Wars films to the prequels, and to other films released these days. They are good films, well acted, and look fantastic. Very enjoyable.

Here's the thing. The prequels weren't great but the characters (with the exception of JJB) were pretty awesome. Thus far the new trilogy is very weak in that department. Rey is OK but the others are pretty forgettable.

Yeah I think your alone on that one, even George might disagree with you...
Which of the sequel characters were your favourites? The stiff and wooden padame, whiny and also stiff Ani, the under used Obi Wan, Jar jar, also under used Darth Maul or the CGI soulless version of Yoda? -

Watching that you realise how shit the leads are compared to the original. Luke, Han, Leah, Obi, Darth, Yoda, Emperor etc. vs Rey, Renn, Po, Finn, Phasma and General Deformed face. It ain't even a contest.
I don't really agree with that. Even for its time, a lot of the acting in the original trilogy was quite hammy and the character development was hardly done in depth.
It was held together by a fucking great bad guy in Darth Vader, who didn't have to act at all.
Of course, its difficult trying to put a lens on your memories and compare them to the adults we've grown into.
Kylo Ren is a massive fuckup without doubt. Besides being a fucking ugly fluffybunny who looks nothing like either of his parents, he's such a fucking emotard.
Poe Dameron has barely been seen which is a character arc I think they've failed to cover adequately in pursuit of a massive 'splosion gallery.
The prequels introduced some terrific baddies in Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Jango Fett and General Grievous. Says a lot for Vaders presence that none of those mentioned can touch him in terms of all round awesomeness.
To touch on your other point Luke was pretty dark and ruthless by ROTJ but there was still room for cheese....I'm with you too!!'
Barf...

Those other characters were small, Obi Wan wasn’t well used in my opinion.
Maybe I’m too anti due to the fact 98% of those movies were filmed in front of a green screen. -

One of my favourite characters from the original trilogy was Wedge and Ive always wanted to have a pilot as a main character. Not a force sensitive freak, but just a normal pilot. I thought Rogue One might be that but they were like guerilla fighters. I like the character of Po but they won't really have the scope to develop him.
A film from the pilot POV would be really cool. Those guys, girls and creatures have an almost suicidal job. Plenty of WW2 films for inspiration as well.

One of the oft-repeated criticisms of the prequels is the terrible characterisations (and flat acting, bad dialogue, etc).
That's not so say there wasn't good character potential, and great casting. But it was never fulfilled, they even made Natalie Portman seem like a bad actor.
The new ones give these guys something to do, and do more than move from couch to couch (seriously check the blocking criticisms). Adam Driver's acting on the bridge was fantastic (so was Ford's).

Wedge just went in and did his job ( surviving three major battles across the films) so definitely an unsung hero but is he really interesting enough?
The bloke who plays Poe is a fucken horrific actor I thought. Here's hoping he improves next time round.

Wedge? He was a bit player that got time in all 3 films but didn't really do much. Hell he even got "engine trouble" and left young Luke alone to pump DS1
That's rough. As far as I know he's the only bloke who helped blow up TWO death stars.
