You claim Wedge did nothing. You have no credibility on a SW forum. Next you'll claim Luke lost his leg in ESB.

@Rancid-Schnitzel you are welcome to your own opinions but whenever it comes to SW stuff you are the biggest 'bah humbugger' of all time.
No, you're all just living in denial.
But seriously, how can you even compare the original characters with the current ones? It's like the Allblacks vs Tonga.
Nothing will compare to the original trilogy, movie making was different back then and Star Wars was unique. Also, your memory of it was set as a child, which makes everything better.
Luke's acting was not great in the first one, and Leia's was bad in the third.
Personally, I'm comparing the new Star Wars films to the prequels, and to other films released these days. They are good films, well acted, and look fantastic. Very enjoyable.
Here's the thing. The prequels weren't great but the characters (with the exception of JJB) were pretty awesome. Thus far the new trilogy is very weak in that department. Rey is OK but the others are pretty forgettable.
Wut?
What wut?
One of the oft-repeated criticisms of the prequels is the terrible characterisations (and flat acting, bad dialogue, etc).
That's not so say there wasn't good character potential, and great casting. But it was never fulfilled, they even made Natalie Portman seem like a bad actor.
The new ones give these guys something to do, and do more than move from couch to couch (seriously check the blocking criticisms). Adam Driver's acting on the bridge was fantastic (so was Ford's).
Sure the acting and directing were crap, as was all that green screen shit. But the characters themselves were solid. That was clearly shown in the very good Clone Wars cartoon.
The current trilogy is extremely light on awesome characters. Han appears to have been replaced by some kind of chipmunk and while Rey and Finn are OK they're not a patch on the better known characters. Renn if of course shit. Yes, Adam Driver is a very good actor but he's not the right fit. The dude playing Nikki Lauder in Driven shits on Chris Hemsworth as an actor but no way would you have that squirrely little fucker playing Thor. Snoke is just weird.

Oh, the Clone Wars was great. Did everything with the characters that the movies didn’t.
By the way, see Morrison is pitching a Captain Rex movie?
Cool. Rex became a big part of the SW Rebels series as well where his character was developed even further. Rebels is part of the new cannon (as is CW I think) so the background stuff is all there.
It would make a good movie in the SW Universe with only the odd easter egg cameo needed to tie in. No need for any characters from the main movies to be involved.PS: Clever of Tem to push this idea as his likeness is used in the animated version and he has to pay the bills somehow.

@mn5 He doesn't appear to be the major figure that the Emperor was does he. Which begs the question, if he isn't filling to uber-villain role, who will be?
Surely he is though. Ren and whatshisname were very subservient and respectful towards him.

@antipodean What does redemption in Ep8 leave to do in Ep9?

Deal with Rey?

@kirwan Prediction: Luke and Rey to the dark side. Emo can't kill mummy and goes back to the light. Everyone loves a redemption story and what better one than fighting for good after killing his dad...
Some theory going round the interweb is that Han pushed the button on the lightsaber and killed himself. After all we don't actually get a close up do we?

I think you mean Harrison Ford pushed the button to kill himself. How long has he been wanting to kill off Han?
