Alex Cross - was ok, reckon it coulda been better and also think (an extremely ripped but bordering on unhealthy looking) Matthew Fox was under-used, also the ending was a bit weak.

Nothing beats Bambi meets Godzilla. Godzilla's greatest performance imo.
And so, The Hobbit.

Saw it in 3D and from the moment you see the titles typeface and hear the opening strains of that jaunty Shire-music it's like pulling on a warm comfy sweater. Here's Bag End, here's Gandalf, here's the mysterious beginnings of an epic journey. It's like you've never been away and in truth you haven't because all of Middle Earth is here: The soaring overheads of dwarfs running across mountaintops or the ground boiling with Orcs. Stunning scenery and underground lairs lit by evil firelight and festooned with ladders and wooden gantries. Wargs, trolls, elves - everything is in place.

Gollum of course is the best bit. Forget the rest of the CGI and the set design and revel in how they've captured Andy Serkis' performance as Smeagol.

I actually disliked the 3D. I just don't get it. But the film is visually stunning as you would expect. It's long too. As it enters it's third stage I found myself wondering when Gollum is going to appear and then how long it would be til the end. But it's great entertainment and something that will need to be seen again and again.

I know some of the critics have been less than enthusiastic but that's probably because they realise, just for once, that their opinions are irrelevant. This saga has gone beyond critical analysis so if you've imbibed the Tolkein drug and slipped into Middle Earth you have to see it.

I saw it in 3D, and it was fine. Might be my last film in 3D though, it's a waste of time, and the trailer I saw in 2D had more detail.

Not enough plot IMO, although I agree with Luigi that was comforting in a way to return to the world. Gollum was the highlight by far.

No. Thought I was but my local Vue doesn't have the technology.

I'm not a fan of 3D (nor is TR Jnr) I'll only be watching it in 2D, think they have some ways to go to make 3D a proper cinema experience IMO.

Little TA #2 does dance classes and every year for the Christmas thing they hire a movie theatre and we get to see a pre-release. This year was Wreck-It Ralph (not due out here until Boxing Day).

Bloody good as usual for a big studio animation and as my kids are well into video games they were, in short, amazed to see Sonic wandering around. I had a chuckle at old school references like Q-Bert and pacman too

    Argo

Was really keen to see this one and had to hunt it down in NZ movies as I missed it on general release (finally found it at Tauranga Rialto). I was a bit worried it didn't live up to the good reviews it got but I thought it was great film. The drama was good, the odd bits of comedy was good and the thriller was thrilling.

It's getting a bit of flack for not being 100% truthful, but I don't care about that - it tells most of the story and I've now read up about it which I wouldn't have done if this film didn't exist.

Ben Affleck should have started directing years ago, I think he's a bloody good director, he also seems to direct himself as an actor better than most directors as well (from his lean period).

I reckon I'd give it a 9/10, it's definitely in my top 10 for 2012.

Agree Nepia. I really enjoyed Argo, the pacing of the movie was great and the humour mixed in with the tension worked really well. It'd be in my top 5 for the year.

Also did the same regarding reading about it afterwards. Was pretty cool reading about NZ's involvement.

I went and saw Skyfall the day after and didn't really like it at all. Would be pretty hard to follow after Argo though.

Deadfall - Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Charlie Hunnam (Jax Teller) Kris Kristofferson

Ok thriller/drama about a brother and sister who rob a casino and end up on the run, Olivia Wilde is pretty tidy...

Ted - as expected, maybe noto as funny as I hoped it'd be, but for the most part it was fine, bonus points for Ms. Kunis

Olivia Wilde is very tidy indeed and not in nearly enough.

I thought Ted was shit. It was hyped by a few mates and fell flat for me.
