The article was appalling alright, why should I have sympathy for someone who has $17000 to spend on accommodation but bypasses Airbnb to save some cash gets burned and blames them?

I've stopped looking at the NZ Herald website. It's been a few days, and I can't say I have missed anything. Their sports reporting is terrible, basically everything but the business sucks arse. Stuff are better, which is saying something
The final straw was a reproduced press release a few days ago. Literally printed word for word. It's just so common and so rubbish.

This is such bullshit, and good on the company for not issuing an apology of any sorts. So you're offended... big fucking deal.
I don't know why the Herald even ran this story, and I really wish they didn't. Journalistic integrity is at a historic low and it's actually having an impact on society now, with companies taking massive hits to profits because of faux outrage generated for clicks.
So a few people on social fucking media got offended by something, so what? Why is that news? This is what generates the outrage culture that is so bloody erosive. Someone makes a joke, someone gets offended... then the media picks up on it and runs a story with a dramatic headline like "Kiwi sausage company grilled over 'foul, disgusting' image". Just fuck off with that bullshit.
Another example of this is H&M running an ad with a black kid wearing a hoody with the words "coolest monkey in the jungle". Completely pure intentions, and the kids mother has absolutely no problem with it. But no, somebody somewhere got offended because they think black people are monkey's (I.E. they're racist) and suddenly artists like The Weekend are boycotting H&M over something completely harmless - comparing a child to a monkey as they display the same playful characteristics. And the biggest losers are (potentially) the hard working employees at H&M who will be made redundant if their profits take a hit.
The idea that being offended somehow makes you a morally superior human being is being perpetuated through social media and bullshit media outlets running stories like this, and I for one am fucking sick of it.
In summary: if you're offended by something, I don't give a shit - grow the fuck up.
