    @nta said in And we thought Buck was tough in Nantes...:

    @jegga yes.

    @MN5 yes. The gamesmanship and diving and stuff is actually recent. It's all down to money IMHO.

    There was a book on soccer in Australia called "Sheilas, Wogs, and Pointers" by (I think) Johnny Warren. Talked about some of the physicality of the game back in the 70s and particularly as a lot of clubs in Australia we based around ethnic groups. It could get quite vicious.

    For soccer.

    Did they say "boo!" to each other and fall over?

    Soccer at the lower levels without the cameras around can get pretty physical, the stuff at the higher level is an embarrassment to the game. The Argentinians seem to be really keen to bring this bullshit to rugby. Between that and the lasers I’m really wondering what the point of them is.

    Honda rider Joan Barreda Bort injured his knee badly on the seventh stage of the Dakar Rally this year, which he then went on to win. It took three more stages with a completely busted knee—one so badly injured that Barreda couldn’t even stand on it—before Barreda retired from the rally.

    These guys are all wimps.

    The other day I told the missus that the new dress she brought showed up all the bumps in the wrong places! And I'm still alive to type this (just).

    Yes, but you are now involuntarily celibate, or going to have to use tinder.

    He’s married so the first option already applied.

    Choosing who you marry is really important in that regard (and then not replying "yes" to "does my arse look fat in this").

    After 25 years marriage do you all think those attempts at humour are fresh?

    No. Just realistic (and I have done similar time).

    And this was just unwise -

    I love how women think the silent treatment is actually a punishment.

    A couple of years ago me and a few mates did a charity cycle ride from London to Paris over four days. This Aussie bird who had bought a bike and rocked up at the last minute without any training dislocated her knee on the first morning. She completed the ride though.

    No isn't always the best answer in these cases. Case in point. Mrs Cato "Does this dress make my bum look big"? Me "No, it's eating chocolate that does that".
