Movie review thread...

The wife and I were tired the other night so chucked on an Adam Sandler movie on Netflix as a "mindless comedy" to watch. Mindless is right, but it was pretty fucking far from a comedy. He is genuinely taking the piss with those Netflix movies, that was the worst steaming pile of shit I've ever tried to watch, could only last 20 minutes. I can't remember what it was called and don't want to know, but if you have an inkling to watch ANY of his newer movies... DON'T.
It's only fair you provide a title to warn us off.
But then, may jus avoiding all Sandler movies is sufficient...

@no-quarter all downhill since the classic Happy Gilmore!
Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, Waterboy... those were all great mindless comedies. Apparently he actually doesn't give a shit anymore, just makes movies with his mates and doesn't care if they are any good, which would explain the drop off.
@crucial yeah avoiding them all is probably a good idea, but this one was called Sandy Wexler... fucking 2 hours 10 minutes of (I assume, I turned it off) complete and utter crap.

@no-quarter I've not seen that, but I didnt think that was supposed to be a comedy??
I liked the Wedding Singer too

Black Panther
Pretty cool movie. Some awesome ideas in there that will no doubt set up Wakanda as a key player during Infinity war.
Some of the scoring was weird e.g. on the Ancestral Plane there was some string work that was jarring and a bit weird for a chilled-out African nirvana.
But whatever - it was fighty and explodey and techy. Also had some decent humour in it, but didn't try to overdo it.
4 Mountain Gorilla Dudes out of 5 weird lip-thingy River Tribe.
:::
There were a few things that gave me the shits about it:
- "Nah mate, fuck off. You missed challenge day but jeez we could use you for an overseas agent"
- Let's conceal the murder of a Wakandan Prince by his own brother overseas
- Let's ALSO conceal the fact that said Prince pulled a fucking gun on his fellow citizens
- But most of all: let's NEVER tell his son the truth.

@taniwharugby I enjoyed this, Woody is mostly quality these days and McDormand is always awesome. But I thought Rockwell was outstanding. He's almost a police version of his Green Mile character.
Was kind of diet Coen brothers so 3.5 Hail Caesars out of a possible 4 Men of Constant Sorrow.

Watched The Death of Stalin last night. Superb cast doing justice to a well paced and written dark comedy. Will definitely watch this again.

I went on Tuesday night. It really was a great Marvel Flick. Antman2 looks great as does the new Avengers.
The thing I like about it was that the preveiws didn't give anything away.

On Black Panther, I thought Andy Serkis was great as Klaue. The Okoye was good too.
It was an enjoyable movie but not the best Marvel flick as some had suggested with the preview hype. But Marvel hasn't really missed a trick yet compared to DC.
@Hooroo I thought the teasers were lame. You can throw the audience a bone without giving away any plot details.

Agreed about the teasers.
It would be in my top 5 marvel flicks so far. Serkis was excellent and it was only when he died that I realised who it was and told my mate that Gollum just died and then he saw it!

I don't think Black Panther is in my top 5.
In no particular order they would be: Avengers, Guardians 1, Thor Ragnarok, The Winter Soldier, Civil War.
Bottom 5: Thor 1 and 2, Iron Man 2, Age if Ultron, The Incredible Hulk.
Everything else in between.
Pretty close to mine. I would probably swap out Civil War for Spiderman.
And Thor 1 for Captain America 1.

Yeah, the Marvel Spiderman was great!
I wasn't a huge fan of Capt 1 when I first saw it, but I actually liked way more when watching it before Civil War - we watched it and Winter Soldier the night before seeing Civil War as one of my mates hadn't seen them.

I was looking at this last week.
