anyone watched the new series of X-Files?
I've always liked X Files so always have eps to watch, caught one last night, think its about ep 3 or 4 of the new series.
Where Mulder & Scully go to an AI restaurant, and Mulder doesn't get what he ordered, so decides not to tip the AI when paying...afterwhich, all the AI in their lives start acting up.

Finished Altered Carbon, I liked it, not a must see, but overall, decent. Was a bit disappointed with the naked clone fight, I somehow decided it was gonna be between Rei & Ortega, both naked...
That's what I thought, too
Overall I thought it was a pretty good series. Bought the book series on Google Play to read, and get some more insight into the future its set in. Hopefully they keep going with a second and third series to suit.

Fiiiinally got around to finishing Mindhunter. Loved the first 9 episodes, thought the last was a complete waste of the season, and just a blatant grab at S2.
-
Finished Season 2 of Divorce.
Hilarious.

I don’t normally like watching the Equine one but that show is bloody funny in a cringing way.

Just started Flint Town on Netflix and it’s fucking depressing.
Fucking hell - about 100 officers covering all of Flint (100,000 people) in town with one of the highest rates of crime in the states. That rate must make it one of the worst in the USA.
Apparently 30 -40 years ago it had one of the highest median incomes of any city in the world. Now this. Yikes.
-
@gt12 Just started watching it too. Onto the third episode. It's just astonishing how such degradation in a city can happen so quickly and how the cycle of despair and destitution feeds on itself: Can't pay public servants - cut police force, crime increases, businesses close, people leave, less money for public services. In fact, the most astonishing aspect is how it can happen in the richest country on earth.

Will have to check it out. From memory that is where Michael Moore spawned from and what he saw spurned him on in his documentary career.
I think people don't really realise just how fragile societies really are.

Exactly. It’s amazing to me that services are so poorly resourced. I worked out that we probably have 100 cops on duty within 1km of here - and that’s Tokyo.
Shit, if you’re lost, you just look for a policeman.
I worked out that the cops to population as a ratio is about .46 here. There? About .1 with crazy ass crime. I had a look at some murder rate data - about 100-125* per year in Tokyo (9 million ppl) and around 50 there (100,000 ppl).
I just can’t imagine a place which doesn’t support law enforcement in that situation.
Anyway, so far I give it four holy fuck don’t go to Michigan’s out of five star spangled banners.
*this is murders and attempted murders, so the number is actually less. Around 70-90 going by murder rate stats.

My parents lived in Flint for a while when dad did a secondment with GM. The got married there too and keep in touch with friends from those days. A few years back they went there to see their old home. They knew it would be run down but I don't think they were prepared to see it completely derelict.

I liked the episode based around their Basketball team trying to get in to the newly formed NBA

@mikethesnow where did you watch it?

Sky Atlantic is one channel that is a pain to see shows that they own. The cost to access them doesn't stack up against the likes of Netflix or Amazon as you are only really paying for one TV channel (the rest are often bundled among other products anyway) e.g. I pay a little bit extra on my Virgin TV to get SkySports and that gets me quite a bit. All the sports channels plus Eurosport and Motorsport TV (shows V8 Supercars). To add Atlantic in costs the same as Netflix.
I understand the need to recoup on your own developed shows but I don't think that the model is correct to attract in non-Sky customers. For Amazon/Netflix I get their shows plus a massive catalogue of movies and other shows. -
