I find this comedy talk @Nepia

Razor has success with a strong NPC side and NZ U20 side so the next step up is Super Rugy where he turns round an under performing team and wins first up and you want him to run backwards now after success to go forward again?

He is developing into excatly what the AB's require, a coach who can be successful and keep successes going of a successful team

FFS people, I wasn't serious ... I even put one of those smiley things at the end. Like this ;).

we were all pretty sure that was the case, but history tells us you Hawkes Bay blokes are pretty earnest about your quaint little backwater province

@hooroo lime rennie was? will robertson have to go overseasto be considered ready for the AB's?

Sorry, what? I don't get what you mean? I'm saying the Razor is doing the right things to be a future AB coach

EDIT! Like Rennie was. I see what you are saying. I'm just saying Razor is doing what I would like to see an AB coach doing in terms of [progress

@hooroo sorry hooroo, bad grammer on my part.

I agree Roberston has been bloody good and has surprised me with his success and is on course for higher honours.

I suppose the fact that the NZ coaching gig has been a closed shop for so long now that (Henry/Hansen = 16 years) that our coaches are looking for other opportunities which is why so many have left.

If Hansen does go after rwc2019 it will be a very interesting process to see unfold. I only hope that Foster isnt given the gig. He is not AB Head coach material.

What AB positions are up for grabs this Super Rugby season?

Backup Loosehead Prop (and maybe starting prop if Moody takes a while to get back to full speed) - Moody is recovering from injury, Crockett is 35, and Hames was a fill in.

        Contenders:

Tim Perry toured with the All Blacks, and will get a fair bit of game time with the Crusaders. Not dynamic around the park, good but not great in the scrum, probably only a stop-gap.

Lienert-Brown is a decent player who has been injured a lot - would need a big season.

Chris Eves is a quality all-rounder, but probably doesn't standout enough in any one area. Would be a stop-gap.

Hames will get plenty of game time at the Chiefs, but is a penalty magnet and his game outside of the scrum is lacking. Improved somewhat over the All Black season. At best a stop-gap.

Atu Moli is converting from tighthead, and would be unlikely to make the grade in his first year. Could be the surprise.

Alex Hodgman had a good season for Canterbury, is strong around the field, but needs to demonstrate that his scrummaging is up to it. Needs plenty of game time. Could be a break out year for him.

Pauliasi Manu has been in AB squads before, and is a strong scrummager, but has been injured a lot since 2015. Needs a an uninterrupted season to prove he has the workrate and effectiveness around the park.

Hopefully Ofa Tu'ungafasi will specialise at tighthead this year.

Hard to look past Moody and Crockett, but the ABs need to develop two more players who will be available for the 2019 WC.

Any thoughts on who the next tight head in line is?

Alaalatoa is apparently not eligible until August/September.

            JTA is frequently injured.

Laulala is out for "eight to twelve weeks".

Moli is gone for the season.

Is Siate Tokolahi available for New Zealand?

@tim I don't think "frequently injured" is an obstacle for selection. The best available players will be picked. Alaalatoa is definitely the best from the rest, but eligible for the later games of the RC at the earliest. Too late for the French series and Bledisloe I and II (and maybe all home games), but in time for the away RC games and Northern tour.

But it's not about who is available now, but in June and beyond. Franks is expected to be back in April. I think JTA will be back by then, too.

Long term injuries to Laulala and Hodgman are very severe blows. They surely won't be available for the June series.

@cgrant Hodgman as an AB would have been a stretch anyway.

@stargazer yeah I struggle to see just how an injury to a nobody in All Black terms is a very severe blow. In any case, I haven't seen anything from Hodgman to get excited about like cgrant and a couple of others. What is it people see in him?

Yes, not every prop who comes out of the Canterbury rugby system is AB quality.

I note that both Crockett and Tamanivalu have not been invited to the SI AB camp due to retirement and going overseas. Maybe Crockett gets a phone call if the injuries to the props is still an issue in June.

I don't know if there are any new names from the Crusaders and Highlanders. I heard something on the radio about those two not being there and injured players like Mo'unga attending.

Where does DLB fit in to reckoning? Probably still learning his trade and working on strength etc but he generally seems to fit the type the ABs like doesn't he?

No communication from NZR, but from the article below, I understand that these players have been invited to the SI AB camp:

                              Crusaders:
                              Joe Moody
                              Tim Perry
                              Codie Taylor
                              Owen Franks
                              Scott Barrett
                              Luke Romano
                              Sam Whitelock
                              Kieran Read
                              Matt Todd
                              Mitchell Drummond
                              Richie Mo'unga
                              Ryan Crotty
                              Jack Goodhue
                              Israel Dagg
                              David Havili

Couldn't find an article saying anything about Highlanders players in camp, but I assume these are the players as they seem to have invited all players who were on the Northern Tour, except retired or leaving players, and long-term injured incumbent ABs:

                              Highlanders:
                              Liam Squire
                              Dillon Hunt
                              Luke Whitelock
                              Aaron Smith
                              Waisake Naholo
                              Ben Smith

As Seta Tamanivalu, who's going overseas, hasn't been invited, I assume Lima Sopoaga also hasn't been invited, but maybe he is in camp due Mo'unga being injured and the uncertainty about whether he'll be back to full fitness in time for the French Series.

I reckon Luke Whitelock got an invite. The extra players on the EOYT should be there.

Sorry, I didn't comment on your post but it seems the Fern had a hick-up while I edited my previous post exactly to include Luke Whitelock. I had already included the extra players, but forgot Whitelock had been added later as well.

I was just browsing an article about the Highlanders and this was mentioned:

A Highlanders spokeswoman later said they hadn't received permission from New Zealand Rugby to release the list of players.

Coltman was listed as a possibility in the article.

Coltman? Hmmm, the ABs already have Coles, Taylor, Harris, Aumua. Unless they ditch Harris (I don't think they will), I can't see why they would invite Coltman even to an SI only camp, unless they want another hooker because they're having doubts about Coles returning to rugby in June.

@taniwharugby Yeah, but well down the pecking order now, although he has been injured. I think Parsons would be a more logic choice for the number 5 hooker spot, but maybe he's not.
