Movie review thread...

I am watching Annihilation (good books it was adapted from), and after three minutes it has already said something very annoying while trying to be smart.
I took that as a recommendation of the books, currently midway through #3
And I'm not sure how long ago you read them, but I would summarise the entire story as "very annoying while trying to be smart".
I'm really struggling to see how anybody thought they could (faithfully) be turned into movies... they're 33% vague concepts, 33% introspective "wannabe psychology", and 33% events (being generous here). I'm guessing there are extended sequences of trippy kaledioscope-type special effects to suggest "whoa... the human mind can't encompass what I'm seeing" ? -
Annihilation
Can see why they went "straight to video" on this one: not splodey enough for an alien chicks-with-guns flick.
I thought it was well done - for what it was - and Portman was pretty good, along with the psycho head bitch.

I do find it hard to believe that the Yanks wouldn't have just nuked it after the first few failures to get good recon.

Pacific Rim 2 - I didn't really like the first one, but I saw quite a bit of this being filmed at Fox Studios and used to score some free craft services with the extras so thought I'd kick them some cash.
Not good. The first one was a wee bit gritty where this one is one of those kids save the world type movies that played better when you were a kid.
Annoyingly the level parts of Sydney in a fight scene but for some reason don't smash the ugly copper tower to pieces.
I thought Finn from Star Wars was ok in it, more to do than in The Last Jedi.

Looks fucken awesome
From the studio that brought you 27 Dresses and The Devil wears Prada....Every movie should have Morena Baccarin in it .
Also is that the kid from hunt for the wilderpeople?
The one and only Ricky Baker!!
It looks MASKIV!!! I can't wait.

@nta I thought it was 3 movies rolled into one. The rebooted Predator, Under The Skin and Arrival.
Taking elements from all 3. It was weird, scary and well acted. Pacing is slow and then speeds up and then slows again. Im over Portman, she was great earlier on but in serious roles at this stage of her career she comes across as cold and wooden.

@raznomore you pretty much summed up why I gave it that rating. Idea was good. Execution was meh. It tried at times to be a bit arty IMHO.

Also the two of them at the end would have to know they're fucked as soon as any blood tests are run on them. It'll be a massive science experiment cutting them up before they go full mutie.

It was a very interesting movie and I enjoyed watching it. Has some big flaws that could have been fixed by just a couple more lines of dialogue.
Disgraceful that it wasn’t released in theatres, it’s main strength was its visuals and apparently the sound for the last sequence. Both losing their impact on TV.

@virgil I loved the first Deadpool. And that is a great trailer.
Its so quotable, my new one for motivating my family to get ourselves organised is "lets get our Fuck on!"
or "what in the Fucksicle?!" -
Just saw Thor Ragnarok, it deserves all the plaudits it got. Looked great, excellent characters and dialogue. Blanchett was an outstanding evil villain, Taika's Thor was a lot more interesting than ever before, the valkyrie was easy on the eye and Taika's rock man stole the show. 5 sisters scorned out of 5 planet killing fire demons
