@mn5 Just confirms my thoughts when I meet men who rave about Harry Potter.

Yep, good to know I'm not the only guy who has never seen a Harry Potter movie judging by those results.

I got through about a quarter of a book many years ago and that was it. There are few things a person can guarantee in life but me never seeing a single movie is one of them.....

The movies after the Prisoner of As.....the 3rd one are actually brilliant kids flicks. Think Goonies. They seem self aware and try to distance themselves from the LOTR schmaltzie romanticism fantasy movies usually have.

    True Romance

Underrated classic. Christian Slater surprisingly decent ( surely his last good role ), Patricia Arquette ( very hot and curvy )....some cool sudden tarantinoesque dialogue and violence and an absolute multitude of outstanding cameos/bit parts from some real industry heavyweights ( SLJ, Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Brad Pitt etc )

Check it out, i hadn't seen it in years but a cracker of a flick.

    4 Detroit's out of 5 LAs....

    Possibly indirectly.

I am watching Annihilation (good books it was adapted from), and after three minutes it has already said something very annoying while trying to be smart.

I took that as a recommendation of the books, currently midway through #3
And I'm not sure how long ago you read them, but I would summarise the entire story as "very annoying while trying to be smart".
I'm really struggling to see how anybody thought they could (faithfully) be turned into movies... they're 33% vague concepts, 33% introspective "wannabe psychology", and 33% events (being generous here). I'm guessing there are extended sequences of trippy kaledioscope-type special effects to suggest "whoa... the human mind can't encompass what I'm seeing" ?

    Annihilation

Can see why they went "straight to video" on this one: not splodey enough for an alien chicks-with-guns flick.

I thought it was well done - for what it was - and Portman was pretty good, along with the psycho head bitch.

    :::

I do find it hard to believe that the Yanks wouldn't have just nuked it after the first few failures to get good recon.

I think I've seen enough movies with mealy-mouthed shithead protagonists.

At least get an Elliot Gould type!

Pacific Rim 2 - I didn't really like the first one, but I saw quite a bit of this being filmed at Fox Studios and used to score some free craft services with the extras so thought I'd kick them some cash.

Not good. The first one was a wee bit gritty where this one is one of those kids save the world type movies that played better when you were a kid.

Annoyingly the level parts of Sydney in a fight scene but for some reason don't smash the ugly copper tower to pieces.

I thought Finn from Star Wars was ok in it, more to do than in The Last Jedi.

@nta I thought it was 3 movies rolled into one. The rebooted Predator, Under The Skin and Arrival.

Taking elements from all 3. It was weird, scary and well acted. Pacing is slow and then speeds up and then slows again. Im over Portman, she was great earlier on but in serious roles at this stage of her career she comes across as cold and wooden.
