I watched a got round to recently as well - The Hour S1.

I'd heard a lot of bad things about this show, from critics I like, mates who watch the same stuff as me ... but I really enjoyed it. I think a lot of people were put off by the spy story in favour of the show but I thought that was a good part of it - although TBF I did figure out who the 'mole' would be early on. Ben Winshaw is scarily skinny though, he could play a concentration camp inmate, I had to look away when he went shitless. McNulty was good value playing the upper crust presenter.

"top of the lake" directed by Jane Campion is coming to our screens (UKTV) this week, has anyone seen it and is it worth watching?
Having now seen the whole series, yes it is worth watching.

I won't put up spoilers as they show on Tapatalk and any discussion of the last episode would spoil for the whole thing.

Netflix has another original series up: Hemlock Grove.

It's their riff on the whole Twilight/Werewolf/Vampire/True Blood thang and it's actually pretty good. Great looking and suitably creepy - and it has Famke Janssen in it, which is always a good thing. Not sure where it's going, but Mrs Luigi (who loves this stuff) has seen the whole thing and has given it the thumbs up.

Like House of Cards, Netflix has put the whole series up in one go, so no waiting week to week to see what's happening.

Has that new show with Oscar Kightley started yet? Looks like it could be pretty good, Sam Neill is in it too.

    Da Vinci's Demons

New series showing here on pay TV (FX channel). I like this sort of historical / fiction mash up with possible elements of the supernatural, and the casting and sets are pretty good. Plenty of boobs as well as language, violence, and the sort of TV that we've learned to expect since GoT became popular.

Been doing net research and it looks like these shows may be worth a gawk at

Rectify - "An intense and moving and wonderfully languid series. Ray McKinnon has created a show about a man coming off Death Row after 19 years and his re-entry into small town society is like emerging into a strange dream world". (Ray McKinnon played Lincoln Potter in SOA

Orphan Black - "A streetwise hustler witnesses the suicide of a girl who looks just like her and falls headlong into a deadly mystery." - this is a mystery series about clones

Bates Motel - a 'prequel' series about the world's best known motelier Norman "I hate shower curtains" Bates. Apparently much better than it sounds.

Defiance - best explained by this from IMDB "The series is set in the near future, where aliens known collectively as Votans have come to Earth seeking a new home after their solar system was destroyed. However, when they reached Earth, they discovered despite a prolonged negotiation with the government on Earth, they were not welcome. Rather than turn away, they began a war with the humans as they are determined to make Earth their new home.". Stars our own Wolf West (Grant Bowler).

Anyone seen any of these?

Those first 3 sound like massive yawn fests. I just cant get into drama series that are thoughtful..or try to be thoughtful. I just want to be entertained, and my entertainment usually needs at least one of the following on a very regualr basis.. knife fights, automatic weapons that never hit good guys, aliens, extraordinary powers, knights, wizards.. or indestructable robots from the future.

Boobs are also good.

Watched opener of Defiance and it's a kind of Deep Space Nine/Star Wars Canteena/Alien Nation western set here on Earth sometime in the future.

It's not that bad, might get better, but essentially it is sci-fi Deadwood without the swearing and Ian McShane.

I think I watch Ep2, now that you've mentioned it.

Finished up S4 of Justified, I liked it, just love Raylan and Boyds characters, and more so when they interact with one another, in that lawman/criminal -love/hate way, although felt they tidied things up a bit quick after the main storyline was all but done in ep 12.

Will have a look at Hemlock Grove and Defiance, sound like my cup of tea (which is similar in taste to BSG's)

Also anyone checked out the Zombieland series? Dont bother....

Anyone watch Southland? Seems to be getting good reviews, was wondering if it's worth the effort.
Love it. I am glad I didn't let Felicity scare me away. The two leads and their relationship has gotten quite complex as the season progressed.

It's been good. Was on TV3 but bunted to late night after a few episodes.

For BSGs benefit it included both guns and boobs.

The next new Fx show (the network that shows SOA, The Americans, Justified etc) is The Bridge, based on the Danish show of the same name.
The Danish/Swedish show was pretty entertaining; especially Kim Bodena. Worth a look.

Sadly no Trouble in the first season. Pictures on my wall by Echo and the Bunnymen and a Fad Gadget track are used though.
