@mokey so basically anybody who is a hero of the young, which I suppose could be anybody in the public eye, will only be able to advertise products that nobody objects to? Where do I go to complain about celebs campaigning against wool?

What next? Sophie banned from advertising beef and lamb because it offends vegetarians?

You could make a case that any celebrity is a 'hero to the young'.

    It's absolutely fucking ridiculous.

I'm a hero to my sons and I drink beer in front of them on a regular basis.

Anyone who doesn't like that can get fucked.

Oh my God who are these people that find the time to complain about such insanely mundane things? Derogatory to men? Jesus fucking Christ, please get a life.

These outrage peddlers are just the lowest of the low. Stephen Fry summed it up quite nicely with this quote:

"It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what."

Too right. As a society we're so fucken prissy and worried we might offend when in actual fact it's the majority that ends up getting fucked off. Case in point. Laurel Hubbard shoulda been told 'Sorry, since there is no transsexual games you can't compete due to it not being fair to other athletes'.

The world is pretty well fucked...I swear there are some people out there who sit and watch things JUST to complain about them.

I remember when the SOuth PArk movie came out, some person went and watched it, then complained about it...

reminds me of a bit in Ricky Gervais' Humanity...on Twitter some Christian bloke giving him shit about being and atheist and saying he will be laughing at him while Satan is raping him, and Gervais saying it is funnier that he is a believer and now he is in Hell, Satan would go and rape him over an atheist...nek minut someone is grilling him over finding rape funny and he is pretty much defending the original bloke to this new twitterer.

I'm offended that you're using an outdated statement like 'Nek minnit'

Re the offensive to men thing.

    I reckon that's a bit of a piss take.

Male characters in adverts are often the fall guy, especially in comparison to their significant other (in a heterosexual relationship ... smart woman/dumb guy).

If it was the other way around (or if said fall person was of a minority) I have no doubt some feminist (or minorityist) would be offended and lay the equivalent complaint.

I'm guessing complainant is pretty much on the wind up. And good on him too. Us middle aged white guys have a pretty thick skin and don't generally mind a bit of ribbing. Probably down to our privilege.

And do any of you see the irony in being offended by someone complaining about this?

@booboo I'm not sure how anyone could be offended by the Richie ad. His wife is ten years younger and a high performance athlete who played a very speedy game. Of course she's going to have more zip.

I meant to thank whoever that was that recommended "Humanity" (on the TV show thread I think). I figuratively laughed my cock off.

Deciding to take offense to a joke about men is a pretty idiotic response to feminists and SJWs trying to shut down any ides that might offend them, especially if you're trying to get an ad that a business invested a lot of money into pulled off air.

Honestly, this idea that people can get authorities to punish anyone that has apparently offended them is fucking pathetic. These people just need to grow the fuck up.

I'm annoyed by these people, but not as a result of a perceived insult against me. I just think they are scumbags.

Kind of my point Mokes. I doubt the guy was offended. Merely making a point/taking the piddle.

Wow. Found myself almost cheering while reading this article in the Ferald.

    www.nzherald.co.nz/opinion/news/article.cfm?c_id=466&objectid=12039421

Now, if only we didn't have the sad situation that by evening time on our two major newspaper websites, the narrative of the (ANZAC) day has already disappeared into minor links and the headlines are their usual vacuous crap about minor 'celebrities'

It annoys me immensely that my Grandfathers fought for a fluffybunny like that to have freedom to spout such vitriolic bullshit.

    Fuck her.
