For a bunch of humans being directed around a set with props, you clowns take this shit way too seriously.

Don't you force horses to have sex with one another and then force their spawn to race?

I still don't get the connection. One is pretend as in it may as well be a cartoon and one is real?

The point is people have different interests. Some people enjoy watching/discussing films, others like watching horses have sex.

Call me a prude but I'm not sure I'd want that sort of talk on here. People talking horse racing is bad enough.

I don't really go on social media platforms so the main information/discussion I get about Star Wars unless I'm looking something specific up is on here ... and this thread is now nearly worthless as a place to discuss anything Star Wars related now because any discussion about anything turns into a TLJ shitfight (and now horses have entered the discussion).

Indeed wouldnt it be rude if you went over to a horse racing thread and bagged them out because of what they enjoyed doing.

I don't know what they are doing right now, but Ridley Scott or James Cameron can make a bloody awesome looking film. Might be time to bring out the big guns and leave them alone to make a great film

I wonder what is more likely, a big gun to finish the series off in style or a diversity pick hired based on skin colour/genitalia/sexuality/disablement/virtue signalling ability?

    oh...

Still look at that amazing directorial record!...definitely picked on merit, you'd have to be a raving racist to think otherwise

Well if you were reading this thread you would see quite clearly that this has been used as an argument to denigrate those who didn't like the film.

Let's back it up. I totally get your arguments about the prequels having waaay to much CGI and the poor acting. I was mightily disappointed with TFM as well which was cynically marketed at young kids. AOTC was utter rat shit until the arena scene, but that did at least give us some all-time awesome scenes. I thought ROTS was excellent and saved that prequels for me. Despite the story being somewhat wtf, the action was incredible and there are heaps of scenes to go back to. So I rate the first 2 prequels as mostly shit but with some epic all time great scenes and the 3rd as good.

The latest films look terrific, much better than the prequels. But that doesn't compensate for the lazy and at times appalling writing. TFA is a decent enough flick, but it's a soft reboot of ANH and they kill a great character. It also only had 1 second of Luke. I was hoping for something new and less death of Han by emo son and was naturally disappointed.

TLJ is just a mess. It answers absolutely none of the questions from the first film. There are so many plot holes that would take pages to list. The new characters are utterly shit (can anyone here honestly say they liked Holdo and Rose). The old ones are treated with contempt (Luke and Akbar for instance) and wtf was the deal with Mary Poppins Leah? The casino plot line was a massive waste of time. That kid using force powers at the end didn't help matters.

I could go on and on. In my opinion it was a really bad film and not nearly as bad as the prequels which, other than ROTS, were also pretty bad.

I'm with RS in his views on TLJ but his stubborn refusal to see Solo doesn't sit too well with me. Star Wars as a franchise would have to release ten poor movies in a row for me to even consider boycotting one.

TLJ gave me flashbacks of this.. just swap Lucas for Mickey and Indiana for Luke:
    alt text

Ten bad movies in a row you say? Well my limit was five. The main franchise movies have had five duds in a row.

The second half of Rogue One was fun I guess. But its not worth wasting my time on that hit/miss rate.

sigh... I have kept out of this thread as frankly it is pretty boring. But Hooroo's comments are just naive, patronising and arrogant (quite a combination really) .
The battle over culture is real, movies and other arts play a pivotal role in that and politics is directly downstream from culture, so actually the messages these movies send can be massive... if glacial.

The concerns about Disney political activism are very real. Often the stuff said about the movie by execs is fucking foul and unnecessary. Make a good movie, market it and let people enjoy the fluff. I do NOT want to know that Lando is aroused by small children, trees and toasters. I don't need some Disney exec spouting off about that crap.
Most SJW stuff in films flies right over my head, but when it is forced down my throat by directors producers and execs I generally just don't go to that film or buy that game. I dont spend my $ on a film in which the behind the camera people act like preaching obnoxious twunts.
Kennedy at Lucas films is TOXIC. She is ruining a film series and also ruining a Star Wars culture that was frankly amazing in that it was based on 3 low budget films from the 70's! It was some serious magic, and she and her SJW buddies are pissing all over it... they just have no respect for hardcore fans at all. Luckily I am not a hard core fan... I am a tepid fan at best. So for me there are 2 reasons I will likely not see Solo.

    1. Timing... just watched Deadpool2 and Avengers.
    2. SJW execs telling me how a character is aroused by small children... and toasters.

Oh FFS, if everything in life is seen through political eyes and that gets your back up then you’ll be a miserable git in no time.
I went to these movies and they are the only movies I have been to in probably the last 10 years apart from Everest. I enjoyed them for what they were. Entertainment.
If they were good I watched again on video/download, if not I didn’t bother.
Certainly not worth getting uptight about.
If the film makers think they need to be obviously inclusive to capture audiences then that’s their business decision. If it comes across dorky then it will backfire in takings. Isn’t that free market at work? No one is forcing you or your kids to watch.

Thanks for the info. I always thought it was compulsory to watch every movie. My diary just got way clearer.
Unfortunately you seem to havd got confused about who bought lusting after babies and toasters into star wars. Hint... it wasnt the fans.

As 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Flops, Are Movies About White Men Box Office Poison?

As 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Flops, Are Movies About White Men Box Office Poison?

Offering a generic white guy in a big-budget hero's journey fantasy actioner is no longer a guarantee of overseas box office glory.

    Oh I see!

Damn whiteys! That's why it's doing so bad. Needed more social justice in it. Lets hope starwars IX learns from Solo's lesson.

As an aside I may actually watch this one based off of the reviews on tsf.

Shit this is an appallingly bad article. The premise is bad enough, but the knobjockey can't even get basic facts right.
