Prob my last round for the year...

Hit the ball a bit better off the tee today, got 2 out easily past 300m!! Hit 2 par 5's in 2, and walked off with par, missed 3 birdies inside 6 feet, 36 putts all told! Only consolation was no double bogies...yay, my handicap is looking like moving out from 7.8 to 8.4 - (started on the 10th)

Not sure what it was, but man I was hitting my irons a long way today!! Hit a 5 iron 205m to hit a par 5, and hit an 8 iron 155m...most of my irons were 1-2 clubs too far today, and I really struggled. No confidence with the driver at present, so much so I hit a few irons off the tee, I never hit sensibly!!

Gobsmacked. 300m drives! It must be all those pull ups you are doing ;)

Remember, as I'm sure you well know, a lot of hitting a good driver is posture and weight. Good wide stance, holding weight back a fraction, sweeping a wider flatter area up through the ball. If you're having a good day with the irons but not driver perhaps you're getting a bit steep. Then staying connected to the left side as it rapidly clears through then back.

The other thing is really work on the waggle and hand/forearm set. Getting and retaining the correct angle is vital.

But what can I say? You're a gorilla!
-

haha...people always used to say to me - drive for show, putt for dough...

my comeback was what do you talk about in the club rooms afterwards, that 315m drive or the 30ft putt you nailed...(people I Play golf with know I suck at putting)

I do find I play my best and most consistent golf when I have been doing a good amount of exercise, I have done hardly any of late
-

For some reason I can't see the pic above taniwharugby but saw it on dotgolf and on paper it looks so much more consistent than the crap I dished up yesterday at Titirangi. Played some decent holes but also alot of absolute shite including a couple of 4 puts (not to mention 3 putts - was reading the greens like they were japanese) and lost a couple of balls. Nothing like pulling out a brand new ball on the first tee with a wide open fairway and pumping it for 6 over long off. Oh well!

yeah not sure why the image of my score has gone, it was there last night...??

Haha, yeah pulling out a brand new Pro V and losing it :ireful: I have gone through and lost all my non-newbies now

Not any great news to report from over the weekend. At Celtic Manor we only managed 9 holes as this had taken us two and a half hours so we stopped off at the bar and had a couple of pints and some pretty decent fish and chips. We then lost the will to go back out in the cold. I managed to score just 12 stable ford point over 9 holes, mainly because I couldn't buy a putt all day.

The following day at a club called Orchardleigh I lost a match play game 2&1. Lost three balls on the fucking fairways. Absolutely covered in fallen leaves, so just a bloody lottery really. Hit the ball pretty good though so quite pleased. The best shot was a 4 iron to about twelve feet on a 205 yard par three. Lipped out for a birdy though and had to settle for a tap in 3.

Ended up with no birdies but sank about 4 pars off a 19 handicap so not too shabby, considering the conditions. Not too keen on golf in the freezing cold.

Had Friday off and managed to sneak 18holes in up at Helensville which is well maintained country course that I hadn't played for a while.

Nice day but poor golf. Alot of DUMB shots after generally excellent drives. Have pretty much lost my mojo. Only really decent effort was on 6th hole where I duffed my tee shot in to the water and had to reload off the tee and that shot then missed the green by some way but somehow I managed to chip it in from a pretty horrible position.

Ended up shooting a 90 which is highest I have scored in about 5 years. Threatened it over the previous two rounds too. Time to sort out my game and starting with a grip as I seem to be fluctuating between interlocking and overlapping. Great way to cause self doubt!

-
I have overlap, hate interlock, My issue is my strong left hand grip...but until I get back into it properly I can't see the point changing at present.
-

I find if I overlap I tend to draw the ball more. If I interlock it opens up a bit more. I think I've been overlapping for woods and interlocking on irons over the last year with good results but all a bit mucked up right now. Need to spend some time at the range.

-

I'll be putting about 400 balls down the driving range this week in an attempt to get rid of my slice.

I'm not a fan of driving ranges as the ball flight is so much different and they tend to mask faults.

As much as I'd like to stand in the fairway all day, I'm not sure others would be so obliging. :)
-

I use the range solely for trying to groove my swing. I do not take too much notice of my distances or the actual flight. If it goes straight most of the time I know I'm doing OK.

-

I use the range simply to get my swing moving, or for a bit of coaching, but not a fan otherwise.

Range balls suck.
-
Ughhhhh just had the most frustrating 9 hole twilight tonight down waitamata. Shot 39 (5 over) which included 2 stupid double bogeys after good drives just strayed a little and were then followed up with DUMB shots.

Couldn't putt at all and the only birdie came on a par 3 that I managed to put my tee shot to about 6inches and it was a putt I couldn't miss. Scored a bottle of wine and some meat for closest to pin. -

Played in a Xmas Cheer tournament on Sunday, got me a tin of bicsuits (lucky given I only had 38 stb) and half a dozen golf balls (Optima Tour Soft???) for 2 2's.

They are taking ages to enter my score...

Hit the ball pretty well, made 4 birdies, had 2 doubles on 2 short bloody par 5's (out of bounds on one and drop from a hazard on the other) No 3 putts, but still had 31 putts (which included a 2 putt birdie on a short par 4)

Made some dumb errors after some great tee shots, but all in all pretty happy shooting 78 with those 2 doubles in there which I should be paring at worst...
