Nepia, Homeland
Saul is a big part of the show and is renewed for next year. He will be a private contractor though. Carrie gets to pick her team in Istanbul so that will explain why Quinn, and the techie guys are in the show.

The series was very disjointed but if you read the link I posted with the showrunner talking, the whole show was diverted by the network because of the popularity of the characters and they couldn't play out their original story. At least they found a way to move on.

The whole Carrie is a nut bag but keeps her job thing is far fetched, but also remember that she has been proven correct all they way along. Her suspicions of Brody, her theory of Abu Nazir, her methods of getting Brody on board and her belief that he was still working for them, not against them all provided the CIA with a pretty big 'win' to hang their hats on.

Although it's far fetched that the CIA would run her based only on her ability to have correct hunches she is stated as being one of the best asset runners they have and that must hold some value.

So there is a wee bit of credibility there.

I'll tune in next season to see where they take it now the Brody monkey is off their back.
Yeah, at least make the wife a MILF - I think the actress was the same one from the Irish series of SOA?

I can understand you taking or leaving Ray Donovan, but I am still bemused that you can't get through the greatest show of all time.

She was also the prostitue in Deadwood.

Haha, I was discussing The Wire with a friend yesterday, I might have to try again...although I have a few other shows I'd like to give a go too (Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, Modern Family)

You haven't seen the Sopranos either? Did you just buy a TV in the past year? ;)

Boardwalk Empire is ok, but I think it's another example of TV only being goodish now and not great. The parts are all there but it doesn't quite fit.

As Modern Family is a sitcom, I tend not to think of them in the same context as the dramas. But I laugh, which is what counts.

Re: The Wire, just do it, but remember to not have any distractions - send the kids to relations, a holiday programme, Siberia, wherever and just sit down and watch. Ignore the fact the first series is a decade old with dated technology (and that beepers were already old technology - they explain why they're still being used IIRC). Hmmm, as an aside, is it too early to have early 00s period pieces? Good luck. If they ever perfect the memory removal technology from the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind movie I may have to get it done just so I can re-watch The Wire for the first time again.

Just checked and Sopranos started in 1999, which was when I went to the UK, as I am pretty sure I watched a couple of eps in NZ and when I got the UK they were either behind or ahead and I never carried on with it.

I remember watching parts of the first episode in the UK and thinking: what is this tutae? Then I started watching season 3 with my flatmates back in NZ and then they replayed 1 and 2 nightly at about 11pm so I caught up that way.

Ok, missed this one the other day, wasn't ignoring you Crucial so don't mess with my votes on the Fernies, that sounds a bit better TBH. Although how they integrate Saul into the show will be interesting.

I'll definitely be tuning in, hell I didn't even hate the daughter like most of you guys did. I do find Carrie to be a chore to watch so hopefully they make her less annoying and include lots of Quinn - but knowing their track record they'll ruin his characterisation as well.

i'm going to watch the entire "Breaking Bad" over the holiday dead period. the internet tells me it's the greatest thing in the history of the world ever, so i have unrealistically high expectations.

M4L: I was listening to a podcast about Breaking Bad and they helped confirm some of my thoughts about this series ... and I know the rabid Breaking Bad fans will probably bite my head off for saying this ... but I don't think you should watch all the series in one go, break it up a bit between series would be my opinion. As someone who just watched it all in one go I think it would be better served with breaks. I think you'll enjoy it more. (FYI - despite the negativity of this post I like the series but it's not the greatest thing in the history of the world, so tempering expectations might be the way to go).

My reasons for this (M4L you shouldn't read this but BB fans who think I'm nuts should) are:
When watching it in one continuous go the Walt v Jessie, Walt and Jessie friends, Walt v Jessie etc story lines get really repetitive. They do it every season and it just started getting on my wick.
I think it's good, it's definitely not great, and I think it's actually the performance of Liev Shrieber that carries it, although most plaudits will go towards Jon Voight I suspect. I have one episode to go so will see whether they tie everything together.

Yeah actually I kind of agree with you on breaking bad Neps. Watching it all in one go kind of gives it less impact...

I.never watched BB in.more than 1 Series at a time so.can't comment, but TBH given.most shows are played with a break of a year it is understandable story lines might not stand up when watched back to back.

I usually have few weeks breaking between series I watch in sucession (X Files and Battlestar Galactica) to prevent boredom regardless of how good a series might be

I actually watched Battlestar all the way through aside from a week long period between 3 - 4 when I needed to track down S4. I watched Generation Kill in less than an 24 hours I think. I watched until late and then got up and started again. Hmmm, I really needed to get a life back then.

I watched the first season of 24 (when it was good) in one weekend about 10 years ago or so. The only shows I have binge watched recently are the Netflix ones (House of Cards, Arrested Development, Orange New Black) and that was mainly to try and avoid spoilers from all the other dickheads binge watching and then spewing spoilers left and right.

BSG all the way through is hardcore, especially if you watch it correctly with all the webisodes, and the two movies (Razor, The Plan) as well. Add in Caprica and Blood and Chrome and it is madness.

I haven't watched the movies, are they worth it?

Now that I think about it, I watched X Files start to finish as it was on The Box at 2230 every night until it was done...I watched BSG earlier this year I think.

Razor was released after season 3. It follows the story of Pegasus before (and after) it meets up with Galactica. Viewing order nerds say it should be watched in the middle of season 2.

The Plan looks at the events that led to the start of the war from the perspective of the Cylons. It was released after the show ended.

Both worth a watch. I think both have Director's cuts with an extra 20-30min. See if you can grab those versions
