Kevin Kline either doesn't need the money or has the worst agent in Hollywood because that guy is a a genius actor that is totally under utilised.

Took raz jr to see Walking With Dinosaurs today. The merging of education with poorly written script and so so animation made this a bit of a clunker. Saw this in 3d so can only imagine how poor 2d is. The best thing about this movie was letting my son choose what ever he wanted, a jumbo pop corn and super size soda, and watching him devour the entire lot by himself. Both proud and ashamed at the same time. Proud he did it and ashamed of myself for letting a 6 year old drink what I assume was 1.25L of soda...

They tried to educate you and I appreciate that but it seemed odd. Every time a new animal is introduced to the story they freeze on it and caption it with its name. A bird narrator voiced by john leguizamo is the worst part. Not so annoying as the sloth in Ice Age but excruciatingly annoying in this.

The weirdest thing about this movie is the opening with a paleontologist uncle played by Karl Urban taking his young niece and reluctant teenage nephew to the Alaskan forest. Seriously it goes like this, movie starts voice of bored teenager in car travelling along scenic highway, cuts to uncle and kids in car. They arrive at destination, teen opts to stay with car, not 2 seconds later he is approached by a talking crow annoyed the boy doesn't want to dig up dinosaurs with his uncle. Crow morphs into prehistoric bird and somehow this is the segue into the main story.

TR Jnr is a dinosaur nerd, so he'll like it for that at least, although if anything is wrong, I'll find out....

Watched American HUstle, based on a true story apparently, all star cast; Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Fantasy Mrs Virgil (aka Jennifer Lawrence) Jeremy Renner and a cameo from Robert De Niro.

Pretty decent movie, good acting, loads of cleavage to satisfy your innner M4L, lthough a little slow, just meanders along at a leisurely pace for a bit over 2 hours.

Just got back from seeing Gravity in IMAX 3D.

Bullock was good - Clooney was better, shame he wasn't in it more. Liked all the space junk, melting space stations and re-entry sequence. Bullock is still fit even at 49!(There must be something wrong with me!) Rest of the story was average though.

Am a 3D nut, so can't wait for Jupiter Ascending - the trailer for which looks fucking amazing, also Godzilla and I, Frankenstein are due out soon.

Also another big-budget blockbuster due out shortly is 'Noah' with Russ the Muss Crowe and Ray da HardMan Winstone. Should be good, they've waited too long to pair these 2 up. Which one will be the winner?

I've also heard that 47 Ronin is a no-go. Have liked Keanu Reeves since Speed and Johnny Nmemonic and Matrix days, so was disappointed with his latest offering.

Here in UK - Robocop is due out on Feb 7th. I will be first in the queue for that - looks like that's gonna be action packed from the word go, again bloody amazing sequences if the trailer is anything to go by. Bet they're kicking themselves they didn't splash out for the 3D version though.

They obviously don't use 'Princess Bride' enough as teaching material in film school. A perfect example of how to use a narrator and cut between the 'real' and 'fantasy' worlds.

so much this. we took the boys on Saturday (to 2D as well) and it stank. The voice actors sucked, the script sucked, the story was barely functional, just trash. the kids were bored as well. If the kids want to go, avoid.

The fantasy might be over, the mrs was checking the browser history and questioned me why there was is much browsing involving one Jennifer Lawrence
I told her it was for research purposes
But I fear the jig might be up

There's no excuse for being caught in this day and age , when I'm looking at stuff on the net that I'd be ashamed about if anyone was to find out about - for example my fondness for Pauli Shores movies- I always click on private browsing.

Well yes I'm greatly shamed of course, although she could have found a lot worse ( which I always cover my tracks, further stuff for research of course)

Finally saw Dredd last night and enjoyed the mindless violence and Olivia Trilby . Has she been in anything else that required some tasteful nudity? If not some that wasn't tasteful? I'm not fussy really

I just saw the Wolf of wall street and agree with Nepia, it is way too long but makes up for it with gratuitous nudity. The Slovenian stripper is not without her charms but Margot Robbie is very nice.

Also they had the trailer to Lone survivor which is about http://www.badassoftheweek.com/luttrell.html and looks bloody good.

I watched Lone Survivor (Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch, Eric Bana) last night, pretty decent film, but the fact it is based on a a book which is based on a true story has me in 2 minds, or at least how much was actually true, although a little googling shows they did try to make it as real as possible...?

Also, the title is a bit of a spoiler ;)

ANywhoo, one thing that was odd -
The scene where they had captured the 3 Taliban goat herders, and the options they gave themselves.

1 Kill them - morally wrong

2 Free them

3 Tie them up and leave them - they argued they would probably get attacked by wolves before being found

My immediate thought was you start to leave the location and head towards the extraction point but you march them with you, and once you are able to make contact with base, then you let them go.

They took option 2 and even then (reality vs movie?) they head off at a leisurely pace, and then decide to fall back rather than press on when they realised the mountain was bigger than initially thought.

Obviously I wasnt there, never been in that situation and never will, so easy for me to pick holes in the decision that lead to the tragedy, but the fact they didnt keep going through the night also had me scratching my head, knowing they had released 3 Taliban to go collect an army...?

I guess these kind of failed missions are based on based on a category of poor decisions.

Oh, and the jumping off the cliffs, WTF, good way down hill to try and evade your pursuer.
The goat herder situation was similar in Bravo Two Zero if I recall correctly - busted by locals, decision to kill effectively innocent non-combatant to be made. Tough
