Watched American HUstle, based on a true story apparently, all star cast; Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Fantasy Mrs Virgil (aka Jennifer Lawrence) Jeremy Renner and a cameo from Robert De Niro.
Pretty decent movie, good acting, loads of cleavage to satisfy your innner M4L, lthough a little slow, just meanders along at a leisurely pace for a bit over 2 hours.

The fantasy might be over, the mrs was checking the browser history and questioned me why there was is much browsing involving one Jennifer Lawrence
I told her it was for research purposes
But I fear the jig might be up

There's no excuse for being caught in this day and age , when I'm looking at stuff on the net that I'd be ashamed about if anyone was to find out about - for example my fondness for Pauli Shores movies- I always click on private browsing.

Well yes I'm greatly shamed of course, although she could have found a lot worse ( which I always cover my tracks, further stuff for research of course)

so much this. we took the boys on Saturday (to 2D as well) and it stank. The voice actors sucked, the script sucked, the story was barely functional, just trash. the kids were bored as well. If the kids want to go, avoid.

Finally saw Dredd last night and enjoyed the mindless violence and Olivia Trilby . Has she been in anything else that required some tasteful nudity? If not some that wasn't tasteful? I'm not fussy really

I just saw the Wolf of wall street and agree with Nepia, it is way too long but makes up for it with gratuitous nudity. The Slovenian stripper is not without her charms but Margot Robbie is very nice.

Also they had the trailer to Lone survivor which is about http://www.badassoftheweek.com/luttrell.html and looks bloody good.

I watched Lone Survivor (Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch, Eric Bana) last night, pretty decent film, but the fact it is based on a a book which is based on a true story has me in 2 minds, or at least how much was actually true, although a little googling shows they did try to make it as real as possible...?

Also, the title is a bit of a spoiler ;)

ANywhoo, one thing that was odd -
The scene where they had captured the 3 Taliban goat herders, and the options they gave themselves.

1 Kill them - morally wrong

2 Free them

3 Tie them up and leave them - they argued they would probably get attacked by wolves before being found

My immediate thought was you start to leave the location and head towards the extraction point but you march them with you, and once you are able to make contact with base, then you let them go.

They took option 2 and even then (reality vs movie?) they head off at a leisurely pace, and then decide to fall back rather than press on when they realised the mountain was bigger than initially thought.

Obviously I wasnt there, never been in that situation and never will, so easy for me to pick holes in the decision that lead to the tragedy, but the fact they didnt keep going through the night also had me scratching my head, knowing they had released 3 Taliban to go collect an army...?

I guess these kind of failed missions are based on based on a category of poor decisions.

Oh, and the jumping off the cliffs, WTF, good way down hill to try and evade your pursuer.
The goat herder situation was similar in Bravo Two Zero if I recall correctly - busted by locals, decision to kill effectively innocent non-combatant to be made. Tough

TR it's a tough one, a big reminiscent of one of the first things to go wrong with bravo two zero.

Does it show the stuffed up rescue mission and point out how brave the afghanis were that sheltered him?

Goat Herder situation similar, but different also given the cover available and being able to move in the day as opposed to B20 and therefore, IMO an additional option available, which I dont think would have been in B20 where speed and stealth was paramount.

It does highlight the help he got from the locals, also shows a number of real images at the end where he has met up with the main guy who sheltered him.

Although B20 was a fark up before they even got on the ground, being compromised just made it worse, although IIRC (been years since I watched it, read it, SOldier 5* and the doco made to debunk some of it) wasnt there some discrepancies around the goat herder side of things?

As I said, this was just my take, and having never been in the situation, cant say how or what I'd do, probably not got off the chopper in the first place

*Chris Ryans "THe one that got away" - worth the read??

I love that film, Vera Farmiga never looked hotter than she did in that either.

Check out the stories about the inspiration for Nicholsens character- Whitey Bolger .

I read Ryan's book and b20 when I was younger and found the one by the guy that got split up with Ryan a few years back. Neither of the two guys who were supposed to be in charge came out of his book well in particular blaming one of the guys who died for most of the problems when he was unable to defend himself .

If you're short of reading material pm me your address and I'll send you up no easy day by Mark Owen, he was one of the seals on the bin laden raid. I'll need it back though my brothers working on the mines and we swap books whenever he's back in nz .
