There seems to be a lot of people absolutely determined to raise a generation of delicate flowers these days. Losing sucks but it's a part of life, kids need to learn how to cope with it. A bit of emotional resilience is hardly a bad thing.
On a vaguely related note I was at a playground with the boy the other day. There was a girl, 6 or 7 years, that fell off some bars trying a trick. She got up, dusted herself off and went to try again when her mother ran up to her and gave her a big lecture, then wouldn't let her try again despite her protests. That summed up everything that is wrong with so many parents today.
I know someone who refused to send her daughter to a certain school because she thought the classroom was too close to a road and her daughter would not be able to avoid running into traffic. Why she thought her daughter would run out of class and climb the bloody great wall around the school is beyond me. Helicopter parent doesn't begin to describe it.
They also have state writing and numeracy tests every two years and an increasing number of parents are keeping their kids at home to protect them from the "stress". Ffs
