@mariner4life said in What are you listening to, right now................:

20 Rust in Peace - Megadeth
19 Vulgar Display of Power - Pantera
18 Live After Death - Iron Maiden (slightly cheating)
17 Blowout Comb - Digable Planets
    16 Beaucoup Fish - Underworld
    15 The Bends - Radiohead
    14 Stomp 442 - Anthrax
13 Tragic Kingdom - No Doubt
    12 Killjoy - Shihad
    11 Betty - Helmet
10 Master of Puppets - Metallica
9 Welcome to Sky Valley - Kyuss
8 Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
7 Vegas - The Crystal Method
6 One by one - Foo Fighters
    5 Superunkown - Soundgarden
4 King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime - Faith No More
3 Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
    2 Undertow - Tool
    1 Aenima - Tool

What the fuck with the numbering? In the edit window it is a countdown 20 to 1. What is with the counting up from 20 in the other?

In true fern fashion I'll look at this from a glass is half empty perspective....

Where is Blood Sugar Sex Magic ?

Where is the Real Thing or Angel Dust ?

    Where is any GnR?

Are Tool seriously deserving spots 1 and 2 ?

    Around 50

Around 22 ish and somewhere in the mid-30s

    Appetite early 20s

    Yes. Both are perfect

    Great idea for boring meetings....

With scant thought but a list of full albums I would listen to if a 'Desert Island Discs' situation of 20

1 THE JAM - Setting Sons
2 DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS - Searching for the young Soul Rebels
3 TOY LOVE - Toy Love
    4 MARVIN GAYE - What's Goin On
5 THE JAM - All Mod Cons
6 THE SOUND - In the Hothouse
7 STIFF LITTLE FINGERS - Hanx
    8 AL GREEN - Greatest Hits (1975)
9 IAN DURY AND THE BLOCKHEADS - New Boots and Panties
10 JAMES BROWN - Live at the Apollo (Vol 1)
11 MARVIN GAYE - In the Groove
12 OTIS REDDING - Otis Blue
13 WILSON PICKETT - The Exciting Wilson Picket
14 STEVIE WONDER - Songs in the Key of Life
15 SKULL SNAPS - Skull Snaps
16 THE THE - Soul Mining
17 THE CLASH - London Calling
18 THE CURE - Three Imaginary Boys
19 SHUGGIE OTIS - Here Comes Shuggie Otis
20 PSYCHEDELIC FURS - Talk Talk Talk

I tend to pick around and listen to lots that were great songs on not so great albums and lots from the singles era, but as above for albums

Ok here we go ... have a few caveats which I'll put at the end

1 Faith No More: King For a Day Fool For A Lifetime
2 Alice In Chains: Jar Of Flies*
    3 Smashing Pumpkins: Siamese Dream
    4 Tool: Undertow
    5 Pearl Jam: Vs
6 Rage against the Machine: Rage against the Machine
    7 Tool: Anema
    8 GNR: Appetite For Destruction
9 Foo Fighters: The Colour And The Shape
    10 Powderfinger: Internationalist
    11 Alice In Chains: Dirt
12 Red Hot Chili Peppers: Californication
    13 Metallica: Master Of Puppets
14 Black Crowes: Shake Your Money Maker
    15 Shihad: Killjoy
16 Chris Cornell: Unplugged in Sweden **
    17 AC/DC: Live At River Plate ***
18 Linkin Park: Minutes To Midnight
    19 Faithless: Sunday 8pm
    20 Sublime: Sublime

    • Is an EP, other than an LP, but I still view it is as completely seperate album and worthy of it's spot. I'd probably have Opiate by Tool around here too, but I've viewed that more as an EP. This probably makes no sense to anybody ... but my list, my rule
** Never released as an album, but available for download on multiple places
*** Sort of cheating as a compilation, but I honestly think AC/DC sound so much better live than from the studio.

I'd have to think long and hard for my top 20 list (too many CDs). One thing I will say, there would be very few 1990s releases, most of mine would be from the 1970s and 80s, the latter decade when I really started to take an interest in music.

Should add - others not considered due to bring compilations, not albums as such ...

    Rolling Stones - 40 licks
    Mission impossible 2 soundtrack
    Singles soundtrack

I'm thinking maybe I need to split these lists into eras.....interestingly 70s would be just about 100% British groups yet 90s would be just about 100% American groups.

Funny how things change, those two are far and away my favourite eras of music.

Clearly a Perry Farrell fan there Hooroo. He has done some great stuff I must admit.

@mn5 My Criteria is that if I were at a all day bbq with beers, I needed to be happy to hear the entire album in full. That would be a great day!

@hooroo I thrashed the living shit out of the Judgement Night album.

I'm struggling to make a top 20, I don't think I'm an album guy and I'm trying to pick ones from my past that I would have listened to heaps, I have no problem coming up with top 20s for TV and movies though.

@hooroo ah Moby - Play. I've listened to it a bit recently. I swear when it came out everyone i know owned a copy of it.

The Trip is easily the best compilation ever, and is so cheating.

    Judgement Night was pretty cool

I probably feel the same about Mike Patton. Neither are at the very top echelon but are legends none the less.

The Trip was a converter album in its own right. So many people I know had their music tastes influenced by that album. (Me included too I guess) Therefore it gets its own place as a stand alone album.

I saw Moby at James Caberet when that album came out. Only a few hundred people tops and right before the songs were all over every fucken ad on TV. Great show.

As you say, every single person on earth owned a copy of it by 1999
