Finished latest series of Justified.

Gotta say I enjoy this series more and more.

Only disappointment in this series was so little interaction between Raylan and Boyd, although I thought Michael Rappaport was very good.
Saw the ending coming a mile away, but I am a little conflicted about the possibility of the show without Boyd.
Anyone watching House of Lies? Have just finished the third season and it just gets better and better I reckon. Little bit different than anything else in its style too.

I was going to start but some of the reviews I read were so so. Worth a look? It has a good cast

Next season is the last so it sets the Boyd/Raylan showdown up nicely.

Didn't think this was the strongest season, too much going on. The Ava prison storyline bored me and went nowhere, and the Mexican thing got so convoluted I had trouble following it.

wondered if it might be the last one.

I guess the Ava bit was setting it up as to why she did what she did, but agree that angle was a it boring and all but pointless.

I liked the Crowes though, particularly Darryl and Dewey, and always been a fan of Alicia Witt (also, a character in a series of books I've read, Alicia is who I imagine her to look like)

I watched the first season and thought it was pretty decent. Don Cheadle is really good, Veronica Mars is good, Don Cheadle's missus is hot, the annoying guy from Pars and Rec is a little less annoying here. Only got about midway through the second before it did my head in and I stopped watching.

My previous job was in this broad area and I found it pretty unbelievable - but still fun in S1.

Justified: Didn't think this was the best season, it didn't have enough of a focus, not enough Boyd and Rayan interaction - probably on purpose in the set up for next season, but in saying that still one of my favourite shows on TV and I'm sad the season is already done.

Another one I'm bummed that the season is over is Shameless (US). I've always liked this show but I was really bummed when this season ended as I wanted more.

Is anyone watching The Red Road? I was all prepared for it to be really shit due to some bad reviews but it has been ok. It has Martin Henderson and Jason Momoa in it and they're both pretty good.

The characterisation is a bit off at times, especially with Henderson's character and his family. The story line is a bit iffy.

But I think it is a watchable show that suffers because it's on Sundance and therefore is supposed to be "important". So it's not great but not as bad as the reviews I read make out.

Got around to watching True Detective on the weekend. Probably some pros and cons in 'binge watching' this. You dont get as much time to think over or absorb some of the plot devices which is both good and bad.

That reviewer linked to earlier in the thread really has the wrong end of the stick with regards to the female characters (apart from acknowledging a nice rack). The show was always going to be male focused as the relationship between the two leads was a key to the story.I thought the female characters, while in lesser parts, actually got to show situations from their point of view.
The perplexing thing about this show is not knowing whether some of the loose ends were deliberately there for the viewer to latch onto and theorise about (red herrings) or were avenues they were exploring but didn't play out.
A lot of emphasis was put on the daughter. The book drawings when she was young, the symbolism with the crown, the voiceover saying 'the answers are sometimes under your nose', the whole drawn out thing about underage sex. Was this there as padding or to deliberately lead us down a dead end road?
As for the Tuttles, I don't have an issue with that not being wound up. Some endings aren't perfect.
I guess some peoples disappointment was that it looked like it may have been playing toward a big reveal or twist that everyone was trying to guess but in the end was just normal case solving.
On the DK watch list at the moment
GoT - a bit meh at the moment, but good stuff is coming, so I need to stick with it
Mad Men - last series, the redemption of Don? Who knows, will plug on with it
Fargo - loved the movie and this has started off well. Billy Bob plays a good bad guy
Crimson Field - BBC WW1 drama, set around a military hospital. Interesting so far. Oh and has Charlie Chaplins grand daughter for eye candy, recently seen with an arrow through the heart in GoT red wedding

Vikings is chugging along without setting the world on fire at the moment. Still enjoying it but not as much as I was. Probably due to a lack of rack.

Still the battles are reasonably accurate, without the bigger ones having come along yet. Its all skirmish level really.

3rd episode of Silicone Valley. Not a keeper this one. In fact it can be labelled as pretty shit . Doubt I'll continue watching.

Mad Men has gone on too long. Really should have ended 2 seasons ago.

GoT has been ok. That brother raping sister scene was pretty farked up. Not sure why they felt the need to put that in. Actually quite a bit of unnecessary stuff this season. The Stannis scenes in particular are a waste of time. Some epic battles coming up though.

the whole thing with Oberon as well, like Renley, I thought it was more alluded to thier sexuality in the books rather than out of the closet so to speak, so what does it add by making it that way? It isn't like they lack for content and need to fill in gaps...

The scene with Jamie and Cersei, that (or a scene very similar) happened in the book didnt it, but was just after he returned to Kings Landing IIRC??

Well into S3 of Grimm, and after a slow start, is going good

In the book she is up for it. Same deal as with Dany & the Dothraki king dude, in the books he asks her if its ok & she says yes.

In the TV both cases its rape. I suppose the deal was that the books make it look a bit "no means yes", as it starts as no but then becomes yes. Which is a slightly non PC to throw out on TV. They would have a got a HUGE amount of shit if in both cases (as in the books) what starts as rape becomes consensual. You can see the script meeting with HBOs legal & advertising guys

"so Jamie rapes Cersci?"

"well, it starts that way, but then she likes it & enthusiastically joins in, sort of No! No! oooooh! yes! - just like when that 30 year old dude did 14 year old Dany in episode 1!"

"yeah... we are not tossing that message out on prime time TV"
