The second hunger games movie. Jennifer Lawrence is HAWT. Was entertaining but just a setup for the third one (to be told in two parts, apparently).

And Lego Movie: fuck yeah! That was a hoot. Kids loved it, wife and I loved it. It'll be purchased/obtained as soon as it's available.

Mama - a horror with Jamie Lannister (he could aused his sword too given he had both hands back) one of those tortured soul type films where thier story needed telling for them to be released

Had some creepy, tingly, hairs on back of neck moments, but IMO too much special effects (particularly the 2nd half of the film) of the 'tortured soul' detracts from this kind of thing, rather than just sounds, fleeting glimpses or shadows to feed your imagination and create suspense, not to mention the obligatory stupidity got that fulla killed scene....

Was ok, but been a while since I watched a really scary film.

Movie execs really are a shower of fluffybunnies aren't they? Do any of these remakes actually even live up to the original, let alone improve on them?

Why remake movies people like? Remake movies that could have been cool, but kinda got fucked up.

Because movie execs are a bunch of risk-averse fairies. They go with what they know makes money, rather than trying new stuff. And the fluffybunnys put too much money into it as well.

I'm watching "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" which I recorded from SBS so it's the original Swedish version. Budget $13 million - box office $104 million = $8 return.

English version with Daniel Craig: budget $90 million. Box office $232 million = $2.5 return.

Silly pricks. Hollywood is hampered by a greedy union system though.

Heres hoping these latest remakes crash so they don't even consider remaking those two, the special effects might be a bit ordinary by todays standards but they are still cool as fuck to watch. I bought them both for me and my boy to watch when he came to stay in the weekends.

I like Mariners idea of remaking movies that got fucked up the first time around, first on my list would be Prometheus followed by Ali with no involvement at all from Will Smith this time around. .

God help us if they try to remake Point Break, I will boycott, mongrels, get some new ideas or fix someting that was broke (as NTA says)

Which is different to the Asian remakes because they tend to change locations rather drastically

The 1920 remake of Hamlet starring Asta Nielsen (as a woman playing a man) is Freud freaking fantastic!

Not many other great remakes come to mind, I thought Jude Law was good in Alfie, but some of it, bah.

Action movie remakes, strangely, are usually crap, Conan in particular. Casino Royale was ok, but something was missing.

The best news from your post is about the sequel to Olympus Has Fallen. I don't care what sort of ridiculous Taken 2 style story telling they have to do to pit Gerard Butler against a whole bunch of terrorists, I will watch it and I will love it.

This particular case you are forgetting the fact that fat lazy Americans hate movies with subtitles. So a great movie with a great idea needed to be remade so that those fat lazy Americans could see a movie they will ultimately forget and probably in later years come across the original and claim someone has stolen "their" idea and made a low budget version of it.

If Willis can keep Dying Hard then Im sure Gerard can carve out a mildly successful franchise/career by Falling everywhere.

Been browsing through a few I borrowed from a friend at work - spoilers ahead.

Centurion - really enjoyed this, having caught only part of it on TV one night. Nice and gritty, Fassbender good as usual, and it displayed some of the actual Roman things (i.e. they're not all white dudes from Rome) that I enjoyed from a historical accuracy point of view. However, I can't completely believe that ambush would have worked. The Romans from Caesar's time took warfare to a whole new level and the activity (or lack of) from their scouts would have been a massive warning, particularly if Dominic West was half the general his men thought.

Red 2 - liked this almost as much as the first, though this one was far more espionage than explosions. Malkovich and Mirren are great value, and Mary Louise-Parker has given her character another dimension. Zeta-Jones is still a fox.

The Book Of Eli - post-apocalyptic religious western? Yeah guess so - reminded me a lot of Mad Max 2. Denzel Washington pretty solid in a movie that used a minimum of dialogue to deliver. You sort of forget that Mila Kunis is starting to collect some serious roles on her resume, and while this isn't necessarily one of them compared to Black Swan, the fact she's holding her own against Washington and Oldman gives you pause to consider her talent.

The Wolverine - was worried about this one after the yawn-fest that was Origins, but this was pretty good I thought.

Warm Bodies - as a self-professed zombie nutter I had to suspend my disbelief for the whole "come back to life" thing. Really interesting premise though, and Hoult and Palmer along with Malkovich did a great job.
