I have seen some pretty impressive camper trailers in Oz but have to say that one takes the cake. Some of it is very OTT though and not required but it seems to be a design done by a team with a lot of experience outback travelling and adding in every little idea they had along the way.

We have a far far simpler version and even that gets a lot of 'cool' comments when people watch us pull up and have a fully set up campsite in quarter of the time it takes to erect a tent.

I would sell my house, buy one of those, and spend a year just driving around Australia... If it wasn't for the whole wife/kids thing

We got our in Oz. My guess is that it cost about a 10th of the one in the video. The trailer is basic but handles outback tracks and roads, the quality was in the canvas part and bed. The fridge lives in the 4x4 and no built in cooker (although it's all set up that we can add a flasher kitchen)

For roads, no. I'm currently towing ours with a 2.5 Subaru Outback. No issue at all with pull or handling (or fuel). Can feel the extra weight in the brakes but that's about it.
It usually gets an outing from Welly to Northland each year and side trips to Coromandel.

Got used to long drives when in Oz. 12 hours just to reach your start point was common. And if you go into the outback from the south and loop out in Queensland the options on getting back to Canberra are either an overnight stop just for the sake of it somewhere north of Sydney or spend that day lying on the beach at Byron Bay then cracking out early for a 12hr drive home. The second option was much more appealing.

Don't find long drives a hassle at all now. Just been down to Invers to watch the boy play rugby and go to the skifields and drove back from Wanaka to Picton in one hit easy.
