Cruise Control on the Pacific Highway is useless for most of it. No CC in our old GQ either. The best part was looking at the map and drawing a straight line to your destination then ignoring the tarseal if possible.

They've completed a fair bit of work on motorways - though some of it seems to drag on forever. But yeah you'd never get more than 100km without some sort of fuckup.

I live in vain hope of ever getting my long-distance trip while work and mortgages and wife and kids get in the fucking way. No sense of adventure these people.

If you're interested in survival, then fish by all means. I am of the opinion that life is too short to waste time like that.

As for horses - they're going to be useless in a zombie apocalypse.

I have plenty of other ways to waste time: mostly at work or on the internet, and generally NOT doing what I really want to do because of the shitty, approaching-middle-age existence I am currently nailed to.

Yeah like fuck. Wife and I earn about the same, working full time. Need to sort out 12 weeks of school holidays between us (and the mother in law) so taking a holiday together is rare of late. I'm often fencing with the thought that buying this new house was a waste of good money.

But ultimately the wife hates long drives, because she gets bored. She generally doesn't like being behind the wheel for any period, and refuses to use cruise control in any case, so tires herself out.

In other words, while there are obviously reasons we got married, my love of the outdoors wasn't one of them.

Further: she considers "camping" to mean "anywhere there is green grass, hot showers, and reasonable access to a hospital". She considers a caravan park acceptable... provided we use an ensuite site, not the common showers...

In fact I don't think I've ever been able to convince her to go camping further than 1km from a sealed road.

So to summarise you can't do the shit you want because you're married and the closet you get to physical intimacy is when your hand brushes against hers when you both reach for the remote at the same time?

Makes you wonder why the gay community fought so hard for this for themselves .

Fishing is awesome. I am a shit fisherman, but, i get to sit, on a boat, on a river somewhere, with no noise, throwing a lure at a bank, having quiet tins, and not speaking to the guy next to me. it's peaceful as fuck. In my life, peace like that is a rarity.

And not much tastes better than a fish that was swimming around in a river an hour ago. If the crab pots do their work, then on a fishing trip you can eat like a king.

Yeah nah. My biggest mistake was installing a TV in the bedroom and hooking a TiVo up to it. Nothing but fucking ordinary female TV like "Offspring" and other associated shit, of which every plot point can be summarised as:

Strong female lead character - usually a doctor or lawyer or some shit

Despite obvious intelligence, makes endless fucking stupid decisions

Can't have her dream man due to ridiculously unreal complications

If she DOES get hold of a real man, chances are that fucker is going to end up deader than a red shirt in Star Trek

Is actually a glib, vapid, trull with an inner monologue or witty repartee that is about as sharp as my arse.

She says its "escapism". When I point out that logically no-one in their right mind could even conceive of such stupidity she waves me off with a "its just a TV show leave it alone!"

Its her hobby, unfortunately.

I save the cost of a boat and go hiking or camping whenever I can. Now that the boy is 10 its time to get him out and about. But I see your point.

Plus, the boat would probably go on the roof of the vehicle, right?

Hooroo - its "counselling". I'm not saying you don't have a point.

Back to the interesting shit on the internet thread: yes TR, I would spot that dirty bitch, and I would shout and groan and moan right along with her.

Pacific Highway is greatly improved on what it used to be with greater bypasses. Driving from Brisbane to Byron Bay is basically unrecognisable from a decade ago.

You do get used to the tyranny of distance. I would pack the car on a Friday afternoon after work and drive from Brisbane to Sydney via the New England highway.
