haha yea, i am nothing if not up with the times...
 
I watched the first 3 episodes of season 1 for the 3rd time over the weekend. it's nice to progess the story finally. The problem with watching it so soon after finishing the books is i find myself less paying attention to the show, and more looking forward to the cool stuff coming up. 
 
The missus knows nothing about it though, and she thinks it's excellent. All she knows is lots of people die, so she's placing bets on who makes it.

My wife and I recently started GoT too. I'm enjoying it, but she mainly watches through her hands, asking when she can look again. Same way we watch Walking Dead.

Not really, we're discussing the way that TD took actors who are great actors, but who haven't done much of note lately & cast them & people had largely forgotton how fucking grreat they were. So it becomes one of those "wow that was a great call!" casting things, when in hindsight you could think "well d'uh!". Recent TV has done that a lot.
 
Bear in mind Woody & McC have been on screen twice together - in <strike>awards nominated</strike> Ed TV & Surfer Dude....
 
Hence me saying a guy like Ed Norton would be an obvious one for TD2. Or Nic Cage. He's done so many terrible roles in the last 10 years, its easy to forget he was an astoundingly good actor.
 
Contrast that with someone like Daniel Day Lewis who just does an oscar winnng turn every 5 years without doing the stupid rom com, the slasher & voice of the annimated squirrel movie in between.
 
To be honest I really didn't think it was that controversial....

Finished S2 of Longmire - quite enjoyed it, think it took a step up from S1, and finished pretty well!! Also enjoying the fact they you are learning slowly more about the characters too.

Starting next weekend in the US, Manhattan.
Set around the Manhattan Project at Los Alomos. Good pedigree of show runner and director.

Is anyone being "forced" to watch Girls?
 
I've actually really enjoyed it. Unlike being forced to watch sex in city which was abysmal.
 
The only real downside is Lena Durham is nakid a lot. Which is horrific. Its actually a pretty good one to watch with the missus as the women (excluding Durham) are hot & the guys are weird looking & kind of losers. Although given Durham is the star your missus may take it as a greenlight for getting massively fat.

I've watched bits and pieces of it, the first time I saw it one of the hotter chicks got nailed by some skinny dude and he gave her a pearl necklace at the end. After that initial promise the other snippets I saw appalled me, if I wanted to listen to whining self absorbed cows I'd hangout with my younger sister and her friends.
Cheers for the heads up about about Dunham nudity, I'm still getting over seeing Kathy bates in about Schmitt. On screen nudity should be the sole preserve of attractive women , theres no wriggle room on this.

I don't think it's controversial to suggests putting actors who haven't been doing any great movies in the next series of True Detective to give them a career bump, but, Woody and McC don't really fit the bill - their work leading up to True Detective isn't bad as you're attempting to make out.
 
Woody had recently done 'dramatic' roles such as The Mesenger, Rampart, Seven Psychopaths as well as roles in big budget films like The Hunger Games and Now You See Me- he didn't need a a career bump. And, Zombieland was a great role, I don't know how anyone could consider it as part of a lull.
 
McC had already done more 'dramatic' roles in Mud and Dallas Buyers Club as well as Killer Joe, Wolf of Wall Street, Magic Mike and The Paper Boy before True Detective. You could actually argue that his renaissance started with The Lincoln Lawyer.

which most of us seem to think is bullshit. I wasn't surprised at all, both actors are pretty bloody well credentialed as far as i can see. In fact, it would be less a case of being surprised it was good, more i would have been surprised and disappointed if they had been bad.

I think this is where you & I misunderstand each other.
 
I'm saying the decison to cast MM in TD was a stretch because he hadn't knocked it out in dramatic roles. Which is countered by "But he won an Oscar for Dallas, and was great in Wolf, and even Mud!".
 
All of which hadn't been seen by the people casting TD, as they weren't even through post production at that time. So what they were casting on was Magic Mike, where he plays a stripper - and definately to a degree Killer Joe. Unless they had a time machine. Its like saying casting Jonah Hill in Moneyball was an easy call because look how good he is in Wolf of Wall Street.
 
Maybe its time to move on from this one....

So apart from all the massive plot holes, what did you want to discuss?
 
Talent2 sure could have done with a few of the computer nerds in their employ when they created the dud called Novopay. 100s of millions of $ worth of time and effort seems to be able to be coded in seconds if you can talk and tap a keyboard at the same time.

[spoiler] it cracked me up how they dealt with a 12 episode "24" by jumping from 11h50m to 23h50m. 
I think the Audrey part was so Jack had nothing left to live for except helping Chloe. The bit I didn't quite get was if the idea that everything that happened was all about the Russians drawing Jack out to catch him. 
Maybe in the original script they had him dying to save the world but the ratings were OK, so they left it open [/spoiler]

Watch an episode, its a great show, but WOW she has a bad body.
 
And you see it. All of it. All the time. Watching that show & enjoying & blanking out Dunhams vast arse is like watching Schindlers List & trying to focus on the amazing film making & ignore the whole "unpleasantness" with the Nazis.
 
In this analogy Lena Durham naked is the equivelant of the holacaust. Yes.
 
Moving on, Silicon Valley. Thats fucking outstanding. Theres some very cool "indy" stuff out of the states at the mo' (Girls, Silicon Valley, Workaholics)

[spoiler]a hasty re-write would certainly explain why that ending felt rushed. 
Did the whole show feel to you like they tried to make a normal 24, complete with several different plot lines. but in half the number of episodes? The whole thing felt a bit rushed. [/spoiler]

I just finished watching "Slaying the Badger" from the Espn 30 for 30 series about Greg Le Mond and Bernard Hinault. Brilliant work, great story regardless if you are a cycling fan or not. You forget how good Le Mond was. He basically handed Hinault the Tour in '85, and if he had been able to compete in '87 and '88 who knows, he could have possibly won 5 anyway. Without doping. Nice little final bit about Lance at the end too, clearly it was an open secret that he was being "assisted"

This is going to be brutal. Sutter won't be going out with a whimper and if he keeps following the Hamlet path the cast will be reduced considerably in number by the end.
